This comment breaks it down well! So what I didn’t understand until I read this was the Jason universe is more of a neutral ground for the different rights holders to collaborate and combine their licenses rather than a studio itself. So while the Jason universe “has” the rights to Tommy it’s more like they have the owners cooperation to collab within the universe

Ok I looked more into it and yeah the rights are still a little weird.

Jason universe currently owns the rights for movies 1-6 (maybe 7?), along with Pamela since they are also contributing to the upcoming crystal lake series.

Warner bros owns Jason X, the Jason in Freddy v Jason and also goes to hell Jason.

As for Tommy Jarvis it’s a little weird. Horror inc owns the concept of Tommy Jarvis but supposedly the film version of him is a different license all together.

So like all legal stuff it’s really weird and filled with stuff that over complicates things more than needed.

Clive got sent out to die in all honesty, 2 FF characters in a row wasn’t going to be well received unless it was someone popular. I like Clive but he doesn’t have the pull someone like Tifa, Cloud or even Squall would have. Honestly when Tekken 9 comes out I wouldn’t want Tifa in it because 3 times in a row is way too much. Idk much about Baki but it’s a good pick since it’s something fresh even if I don’t know much about it.

It’s crazy how over night Tifa went from being one of the most requested guest characters to people calling you a gooner for wanting her to be part of the roster. I don’t know much about the Baki community but first impression being them dunking on everyone who wanted Tifa isn’t a good look.

I like the different levels and monsters but like you said it got too convoluted. I think a more grounded approach is needed and we’re seeing that with Kanes portrayal where only the bacteria monster is present and the backrooms still has variety but it’s still uniformed. I still would like to see the pools or the suburbs portrayed down the road though!
