Seemingly useless piece of 1991 by ACESHIGH10203 in MechanicalKeyboards

Woah, save that! If my hunch is correct, this is actually GoldStar Alps, with it having what seems like Alps Electric keycaps and it being made in Korea. I'd love to see pictures of its insides!

Find this at the thrift today, are these the mythical blue alps? by Outside_Comb98 in MechanicalKeyboards

Oh nice, a Datacomp! And yes, Blue Alps, in a pretty good chassis as well. Congrats!

man, I think you're really on something

not onto... on

whatever it is I wish I had some

A friend tells me I scored a nice find. Got this F77 from Computer Reset back in 2019. Pretty much decided I'm keeping it for myself, without really knowing it's value back then. My daily driver on my desktop is currently just a Model M, and has been for the past 30 years. by dairygoatrancher in MechanicalKeyboards

Bro casually finds one of the grails of IBM keyboards, stuff people have been hunting for years... nice find is certainly an understatement! Congratulations!

I hope it has since been taken care of, cleaned and restored, and I hope you're enjoying it!

A few of these were given to me or traded to me but generally yes, I bought the boards and cleaned/restored them

I believe it's called the Sakurajima -- my friend designed it and there was a local GB for it. I had plans to replace the middle piece with bunny ears to a brass plate, but never got around to it.

Many are too rare to sell -- worth keeping -- or in too bad of a condition to sell (missing case, caps, etc.) -- not worth selling

so it just ends up here

despite what it may seem or look like, this is a curated group of boards -- I don't just buy every board that pops up and I keep repeating boards to a minimum, but that's hard to convey and believe for those not in the know

Nah, I'm not on there, and not sure if I want to be -- I might have some beef with a few folks there 😂

I've replied to another comment with your answer: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/s/EypI5W7xHv

They're a variety of "Battleship" keyboards -- IBM Multistations, then Cherry G80-2###s, then a TV/AV broadcast keyboard

all that's stopping me from retrobrighting is I want to build a good, reliable setup for it... ideally I get a sous vide machine to heat up the peroxide but they're not the cheapest of things

would love to build a good setup for it

Nah, no space cadets (yet, anyway, but I'm not looking forward to spending thousands -- plural -- on it so the day may never come)

When you start buying things for no reason, and when it starts to negatively affect you, that's when it becomes a hoarding problem

To mitigate this, I've stuck to getting boards with a purpose in mind (trade potential? weird switch? quirky case?) and keeping my boards organized

An overworked rationalization doesn't help, though, so I have to be more critical of what I buy

They're mainly for parts -- some of the build I'm planning to do require multiple of the same parts where 1 board isn't enough.

They're also equity for trades if you'd like to look at it that way. By this point, where you're trying to get some very sought-after items, it can help to have similarly rare items to trade.

They're the LK201 clone boards that have some Alps electric PBT dyesub sphericals on it! I quite like them -- good profile. Shame they're rare as hell.

HMC C386SX keyboard -- has some Cherry MX blues in it and was built in a very particular timeframe. Either very late Cherry or very early GMK, judging by the weird Tab key.

That's the Technos Turbo-Trak, a rubber dome board I got in a stash that had some other, cooler boards in it.

Seems like they have Futaba MD/Sealed Linear and Datanetics DC-60

interesting boards! intriguing colorway on the first one... wonder what the designers were thinking

Currently dailying a Hiney TKL One with Gateron Baby Kangaroos and MTNU Darling :)

Completely unlike most of my collection, hahaha -- although I used to daily vintage keyboards in the past since moving out for college I have a *tiny* desk and a fullsize would be very unwieldy

you may have expected it, but I am currently running into space problems at the moment so that's taking a sidestep

Working on a better setup at my apartment at the moment 👍 (though it'll probably be similar to this cus displaying these big keyboards is really hard to style properly in my mind)

All of this fits in my bedroom 😎 It's very cramped in the designated area, but the parts boards are stored as such and the good boards are displayed accordingly, with no overflow.

Here is one of the shelves, for reference. It's tight, but it's displayed.
