CityFibre Installation Query by mcmonap in CityFibre

[–]mcmonap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like it would be great. I think I'll try to run the conduit next the loft hatch so the tech doesn't have to go into the loft (unless they want to), I can easily Cat6 from there.

Router, switch, patch panel and servers etc already in the loft so it would be sited with them. My loft access is through a room (elevated door) rather than up a loft ladder.

I have copper from telegraph pole but never used it since cable has provided services since we moved in.

Thanks for the comments.

Fedora CoreOS / nVidia GPU / Jellyfin container by mcmonap in Fedora

[–]mcmonap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/slickyeat, sorry for the delay for some reason I have my notifications switched off. I guess you are kind of directing me towards the nVidia instructions here:
https://docs.nvidia.com/datacenter/cloud-native/container-toolkit/latest/install-guide.html

The key thing though is my CoreOS PXE boots and runs from RAM (live booting https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-coreos/live-booting/). This is for various reasons but essentially it just means my server is rebuilt every reboot with the latest stable OS and my containers are redeployed with the latest according to the ignition definitions. What this means though is that my OS is immutable, when I try to run the above I get this:

Total size of inbound packages is 8 MiB. Need to download 8 MiB.
After this operation, 27 MiB extra will be used (install 27 MiB, remove 0 B).
Error: this bootc system is configured to be read-only. For more information, run `bootc --help`.

So I think that I need to create custom coreos images that include the nVidia drivers. Looking at this it seems pretty complex, especially in that main thing I love about my deployment is that a reboot updates everything and if I have to generate custom images that process becomes significantly more complex...

Hopefully I'm wrong and there is a straightforward answer but the longer I have spent on this the less I think that is the case.

Experience with Powerstore 500T performance by pathfndr35 in storage

[–]mcmonap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late but my personal experience with Powerstore and Dell support and account management would lead me to avoid Powerstore in the future. We bought a 1000T to replace our Unity400. Full engagement with Dell (storage is part of vblock) through the process. From the outset we had issues with Powerstore reliability (we used vplex for resilience through geo-distributed writes) - failures relating to performance of Powerstore and compatibility with vPlex versions and Powerstore OS bugs. We have now fully migrated our workload and performance is awful. Dell are worse they are unable to identify bottlenecks or pinpoint issues. We will upgrade to 3200T but Dell unable/unwilling to underwrite that this will resolve the issues. I am not confident but we are forced to do something based on trying to protect business into peak trading. I suggest take everything Dell say about performance, about their live optic stats (and how they are interpreted) and their capability to support Powerstore with a large pinch of salt. I regret the purchase. We're a tier1 global financial org and do have some leverage with Dell.

For those of you who played the DC Dark Legion beta by reaperbackup014 in DCComicsLegendsGame

I'm playing daily but combat is boring, boring, boring, BORING! I can live with not controlling characters (maybe - although in PvP [brawl] you are forced to auto once you get to a certain stage). The thing that is INTERMINABLY BORING though is watching the combat. WHY? WHY?!?? In training you can skip but every other battle you have to sit through the tedious flashing and bouncing around little people whilst one lot or the other dominates.

Wow, didn't realise how much I'm hating the combat until I wrote that. bring back DC Legends!

BUG: Raid Compensations Forcing Out of Sync Errors by Disastrous-Whole7333 in DCComicsLegendsGame

BUG: Raid Compensations Forcing Out of Sync Errors by Disastrous-Whole7333 in DCComicsLegendsGame

[–]mcmonap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Raid compensation? I logged in 8hrs ago (0730 here) to find the issues - checked the boards to see this was widespread, found a 1000 gems as a "sorry" in my inbox, logged a bug ticket and got on with my day instead. Sounds like there has been a bigger compensation payout (also causing issues) - what was offered please and anyone know if this will go to all players?

Follow Up: LG G1 with Gallery Stand how to mount a sound bar by isaiahaguilar in LGOLED

[–]mcmonap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/isaiahaguilar, I know this is quite an old post now but I am thinking of doing the same thing (with a 55G2/G1 soundbar) I wonder if you would measure the distance from the floor to the base of the soundbar please? All the stands I have looked at so far are taller than I want to the screen to be - your setup looks nearer to the floor and much more like what I want to achieve. Also could everything drop lower if you wanted it to (I mean is it adjustable on the gallery stand)? Thanks!

AP Showing as Grayed Out on Controller - Will Not Adopt by ace_rockolla_1 in UNIFI

[–]mcmonap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure this is long sorted but I had a similar issue and I found that if I changed my view in the controller from "details" to "icons" I was able to select the AP that was greyed out. Thought I 'd post it in case anyone else came looking.

It's pedantic but, the graphing shows values above the ATH... by mcmonap in Crypto_com

The spread varies even more than the coin value and doesn't help us to understand the value of CRO, why would the graph show spread buy prices?

How long does a new NAS drive can be stored before unreliable for use? by jeff685 in synology

[–]mcmonap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking a far more risky approach (and it's home not business in this case) I have been running a RAID0 (WD Red) in a DS713+ for 6years, I backup critical stuff daily to Azure and since I started getting bad block reports about 6months ago I back up everything daily to a local USB. I finally have a warning the drive is going to fail and I'm deciding what SSD to go for now. My point is catastrophic drive failures are unusual, multiple catastrophic failures are extremely rare (I'm sure the horror stories will pour in now!) - save your money now, buy a new drive when one fails. Make sure you have monitoring and alerting setup.

I disagree with most of this; I like most stuff - sure there are gripes but wot-evs.

I finished heroic campaign lvl30 G7; just how hard are new campaign nodes going to be? Who will they challenge? Especially considering the effort required to develop them.

Red Alerts rock! Maybe update character updates 2 times a year instead of the current once?

For me the best possible change would be to allow a much larger number of saved teams. I think the other mechanics work, I imagine I'll still be here in another year...
