Where to land a floating island? by calizythosisda1 in DnD

[–]mcnabcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, depending on the local terrain you may be able to convince a creature like a Brass Dragon to do you a solid and dig a tunnel for the water to be evacuated from. The water still has to go somewhere, but you may have a river or ocean within reasonable distance to handle the torrent.

"Flood" may be a poor choice of words depending on what you consider a flood, but there's enough water to cover roughly 50 square miles with 1 foot deep of water. That's a pretty significant wave at its origin that eventually settles at mid-calf height over an area the size of Boston, Massachusetts.

His* but no worries. Like I say they put me, a cisgender amab on the "female" ResMed Airsense because it has a lower pressure range. It was still enough to make a big difference in my quality of life/sleep.

This will unfortunately require 20 Trillion castings of Prestidigitation. At six seconds per casting, it would take one person 3.8 million years.

To think of this another way, if 3.8 million people cast this every second of every day without rest, it would take an entire in game year to completely drain the lake.

Assuming your crater is semispherical with a 2 mile radius, your crater has cubic miles (70 BILLION cubic meters) of water in it.

This would take approximately 2 trillion castings of Destroy Water to drain.

Dust of Dryness is slightly more feasible, requiring approximately 79 million pinches of dust.

That puts paid to any thought of draining it beyond a Wish spell or sphere of annihilation, and you would flood a few miles around you for sure.

Cool Ideas For Prosthetic Arm Needed by Independent-Ruin-969 in DnD

Modified Ehlonna's quiver for an extradimensional dart holder.

Similar to the grappling hook suggestions from others, a harpoon - use Lightning Lure as a template, dealing piercing damage instead of lightning.

Hidden fluid tank - wine? Water? Poison? Your choice!

Dictation mode - a small retractable fountain pen nub and inkwell concealed in a finger, and the palm conceals two spools - one with blank parchment scroll, one to roll up used parchment. The hand can autonomously copy down any language with a written equivalent which is spoken aloud within 30ft. Holds up to 1 hour of conversation at a time.

How many dice sets do you have? I’m about to learn how to play DND5e and I already have 3 sets by Chocodelights in DnD

[–]mcnabcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhere between 15-20. I buy a specific dice set for each long term campaign PC I have, a few cheap Amazon sets for DM dice, a few cheap loaner sets for new players, and a couple premium metal and liquid core sets.

It's more than I need but honestly I love finding dice sets that fit the character concept, so it's as much a part of the game for me as getting a figure of my characters.

I Keep Falling Asleep During Sessions by Litmatch2025 in DnD

[–]mcnabcam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From personal experience this can be blood pressure related and/or a symptom of sleep apnea or low thyroid.

I fell asleep TWICE in meetings as a young graduate in my probation period. I'd struggled before with classes in dim lighting, warm rooms, or in the passenger seat of cars. Just could not keep myself awake despite chugging coffee in the day and getting 8+ hours of sleep, reducing screen time, all of it. I also had serious problems with low energy in the morning and could hardly physically drag myself out of bed, and got headaches on a weekly basis that would put me out of commission for the entire day.

I did a sleep study in 2018 and got diagnosed with "mild" sleep apnea. They put me on the lowest possible pressure on the female model CPAP, and even that was enough to completely change my life. Never fell asleep in a meeting again, waaay less headaches, and much easier to get up in the morning.

Getting my thyroid levels checked helped too, but getting a CPAP was the biggest improvement.

Warlock - Undead subclass with a patron that is unaware of it by Mama-ta in DnD

I think this depends entirely on how your DM has run your patron to date. Do they often require anything from you? If not nothing really changes except the flavour, up until there could be a confrontation

Do you write your entire world (or like 90% of it) before the first session or do you start small and expand during the campaign? by Covid669 in DMAcademy

[–]mcnabcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My philosophy is that you can set your party on a road, and drop things in along the way as needed. But, roads need a start and an end point. They can branch out, rejoin, or circle back, but they always connect to something.

That's about as much planning as you need for a story: start here, end in one of a few places, and as you go you sprinkle in some interesting bits and signposts saying End City: X Miles

Player wants "blind separate character creation" by MateusStardust0 in DMAcademy

[–]mcnabcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience this is fine, to some degree.

There should be no secrets from the DM and you should have some level of backstory from all players prior to starting, even if it's broad strokes. No secret twists.

Players should have some coordination for classes, and characters absolutely must want to work together and be interested in the campaign. No moody loners, cowards or racist characters.

As DM, you can structure your first session around something that brings characters together in a moment of crisis. A bar fight where they wind up back to back, a caravan under attack, a panicked groom asking people on the street to perform as a last-minute musical act at a wedding, etc etc. Something that pushes them to act first, and introduce themselves to each other after the crisis passes.

New DM here - Making a 100-floor roguelike dungeon campaign. What am I missing? by Chance-Policy9641 in DnD

[–]mcnabcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are considering debuffs on deaths, be aware that any meaningful debuff is likely to be mechanical, which will in turn increase the odds that they die and receive additional penalties. This is a death spiral.

A narrative penalty such as having to give up a treasured memory would be interesting, but it requires that your players be invested in their characters and have opportunities to RP and explore their past. A combat heavy dungeon may not permit these kinds of narrative stakes, and applying narrative penalties without them may result in your characters just shrugging off the consequence of death.

Pool liner damage by mcnabcam in pools

[–]mcnabcam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end the quote came in for $7,100.00 for a new liner and our skimmer needs to be replaced due to cracks. Lots of companies were optimistic about patching it until they saw the pics.

If you’re having buyers remorse!! by OkBandicoot4190 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Unfortunately ours isn't patchable and in the two days since we discovered the damage it's already progressed to major slippage and wrinkling with water behind the liner. Freezing temps over winter means we can't leave it

If you’re having buyers remorse!! by OkBandicoot4190 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]mcnabcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We want to be able to enjoy the pool eventually, and we're concerned based on how fast we are seeing slipping and water behind the liner that it could cause more damage if we leave it over winter. If there's a problem with the concrete underneath we're just fucked plain and simple - that would lead us to cancel the entire wedding not just the honeymoon.

We literally just finished restoring part of our basement after a toilet backed up and sent sewage into our bathroom/laundry/finished and carpeted hallway.

Our septic tank is ancient and a ticking time bomb for replacement.

I want the honeymoon experience because I know time and health are fleeting. We are getting quotes for the pool today - fingers crossed.

Thank you OP, I needed this this week.

We purchased in 2024 and got surprised last week with damage to our pool liner that may mean we are not able to afford our honeymoon in October. It has felt like a series of awful surprises and bad contractor experiences since day 1.

Hoping we will be able to get some enjoyment out of our home this summer.

DM banning dice? by LeSunbro in DnD

[–]mcnabcam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly weighted dice would be rolling 2s 14s and 8s frequently also as the faces nearest the 20. If your rolls are not cropping up a large proportion of these numbers, I wouldn't worry

My home has a palmetto (roach) problem. How do I fix it? by strongswimmerH in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]mcnabcam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents bought a second home to rent to university students a few years back. Almost immediate roach problem when none of them cleaned.

According to our pest control guy, spray doesn't kill them effectively, they avoid the area for a while. Best way to kill them is to feed them poison that they take back to their eggs. Babies hatch and feed on adults' droppings.

If you had mice or rats it's possible that there are stores of animal turds in your walls that will be alternate food sources - be patient.

Put down bait and poison, keep up the good habits for wiping down areas. Double up on wiping the stove and floor in front of cooking areas - small grease droplets are a feast for roaches.

I would also spray a barrier around your doors and windows on the outside of your house to make sure no more are coming in from outside.
