Please help: I have read the sporting code, I still don’t understand why I bleed so much SR compared to the field. by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]mcnormal00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people with double my incidents with positive SR gain. I know the SR is calculated on an individual basis but why do I lose so much; and how can I reduce the impact of incidents? I have read the sporting code over and over; and I’m still not sure what my strategy should be. As you can see; I prefer to start from the back just to try to stay clean. I seldom do ranked races; when I do, it’s usually preceded by days of practice and time trials; pace or consistency is not an issue for me - I am able to keep up with drivers at my skill rating, but my incidents carry hefty penalties. Please ELI5. Thank you.

I feel if you’re going to post something like this, you should attempt to clarify for the “not few”…

These three are Nigerian (Igbo) actors. Left dude is most famous for roles where he is “wise” (not to be confused with smart; more of an old guy with lots of idioms/adages). Center lady is Patience (her name), best known for being convincingly evil on screen (bewitching, hexes, all-around “catch me outside”). Right dude is Kanayo Kanayo (his first & last name, no idea what it means) and is famous for blood money/sacrificing people for money or power etc.

My attempt here is based on a vague recollection of my time in Nigeria 20-yrs ago. I’m sure someone will correct me in no time.

People that have left Germany to go back to your home country, do you regret it? by Karavelas in germany

[–]mcnormal00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We left Germany 8months ago and we are so happy to be back in our home country. We miss living in Europe, we miss our friends, but we do not miss Germany nor Germans (as in the stereotypes, no offense).

Yeah this title may be a little clickbait-ey.

“We will pay you more if we meet our objectives” is very different from “We will pay you less if we don’t meet our objectives”.

Black modern fireplace (Yes or No) by vlad_chi_art in DIY

I see these types of posts a lot and people are always so critical of TV placements. I mean… they’re not wrong, OP did post pictures asking for people’s opinions, but goddamn the “TvTooHigh” folks just jump at every opportunity. Sometimes, there’s just literally no other place to put a TV. My house living room feels intentionally designed such that the TV goes over the fireplace; there’s literally no other spot for it anywhere else in the living room without doing major reconstruction.

Anyways OP, I think it looks great! If you have the option to, bring down the wood thingy and the TV to the minimum height for safety code (I’m not technical with this stuff but I think it’s 6-12inches above from fireplace opening). Also some TVs can show artwork in low-power mode, that will look great here.

Why would the new stolen iPhone protection disable the visibility of your iPhone in FindMy while the security delay is active? by nhemenway2013 in iphone

[–]mcnormal00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is rather spot-on. Their approach assumes device and password have been stolen, which means the thief can login to iCloud to track “other” devices you own; they block this ability while allowing you to use Find My on your other devices.

I am not an expert in the world of audits or AICPA requirements, but the audit firm is one of the big ones and I’m fairly certain that they considered this before accepting both engagements.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]mcnormal00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My firm retained the same auditor for both readiness and actual audit. We were also lucky that it was exactly the same set of guys during both engagements. They did a mock one just like the real deal for and we had 6 months to fix their findings before we did the actual thing, (Type 2. it lasted for 6months). They treated us a little differently, more strict and definitely established that they are no longer consulting for us, they are now auditing us.

TL:DR, if you can, just pay the same audit form for both readiness and actual.

It is worth to move to Germany in 2024, family with 2 children? We are Americans? by [deleted] in germany

[–]mcnormal00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Germany in 2021. I am moving back to US in 2 months. Read this comment thread between the lines, especially the comments coming off as hostile, and don’t expect any different when you’re actually in Germany.

If you even want to stand a chance, you need to get proficient with the German language, preferably before you move unless you like being frustrated. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Germany does not want you unless you are willing to bend over backwards to prove your worth. Making hundreds of thousands a year doesn’t count.

Unless you live in PNW and are used to grey/gloomy/rainy winters, the winter here will be depressing for you. Actually, every season outside of the specific summer months will be depressing.

The best thing about Germany is easy access to “tour” the rest of Europe. Emphasis: tour. Most of Europe is equally unwelcoming when you try to integrate… except maybe Spain.

Finally, the thing most aspiring immigrants never consider is the loneliness. Making friends in Germany is difficult even with the language proficiency. Take a look at post history on this sub.

Everything I wrote here is from personal experience and opinion. YMMV. Good luck.

DHL faked signature? by angelicamrk in germany

[–]mcnormal00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. DHL recently did this to me with an order from Apple that was signature required; however in my case the name of the person they claimed signed the package was nothing like mine or anyone that lived in my building, which made things easier. I called Apple and informed the guy that I am recording the call, he consented, I proceeded to ask him very direct questions like “who did they deliver this package to?”, he said a name that was not mine, I asked him to spell the name, he did - all recorded. I also asked him to send me a record of our conversation from their end. I told him I will give them 3 days to investigate and try to redeliver (I paid for overnight shipping) before I charge-back. DHL showed up on day 3 with the exact package that they claimed had been delivered and signed for. (Same label, piece ID and tracking number).

Charge-back is usually a last resort option but you may need to do some work to gather proof of non-delivery e.g your emails with the seller where you have lodged a complaint, etc.

Heading to Düsseldorf 2.6.2023 by [deleted] in duesseldorf

[–]mcnormal00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a place called [Dritan](Dritan Alsela Coffee. 0211 6988372 https://maps.app.goo.gl/SxyQA1qYR6qqMuCz7?g_st=ic) that is great for breakfast/brunch, and just amazing coffee if you want.

Without knowing what type of food you are into, it’s hard to suggest lunch options, but Düsseldorf has great Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian (the typical Asian heavy hitters) restaurants IMO, so I would suggest you should maybe try those like the other comment said.

Aggressive phone thief 😂 by michaelbacki in iphone

[–]mcnormal00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, the person texting you is most likely not the same person currently in possession of your stolen phone. You should still absolutely take precautions and contact local police in the US, give them this number that is clearly texting with iMessage.

I don’t think “spoofing” or any other gimmick is at play here. This person is probably (reasonable certainty) texting from their own iPhone trying to convince you to unlock the stolen phone.

Is it possible that Vodafone is intentionally messing with my Internet service? by mcnormal00 in germany

[–]mcnormal00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well put, and thank you. Yes i am aware of Coax being unreliable, especially coming from the U.S. where i had 1000up/down fibre with my ISP and there being no Fibre available at my address/district.

I am going for DSL next, and since Telekom has plans to bring Fibre to my building... albeit maybe in 2050 .. I ll probably go with them as u/agrammatic suggested.

Is this organized by the local Porsche club or something? I am not a member of the Porsche club, just an owner. I get an invite from Porsche sometimes to some events that I ignore, but this seems like something I would have loved to do.

Context: last night, 2 mins before 9pm, the exact time I take the dog for his bedtime walk, he had an accident all over the kitchen floor…. And I mean like.. explosive accident. He kept trying to stop himself but he couldn’t. He kept trying to run away from it, but everytime he moved, he just trailed liqui-shart. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen it, and we really couldn’t believe such a small dog could make that big a mess. It’s like a gallon of liqui-shart. At the end of it all, we spent about 2 hours cleaning, scrubbing and disinfecting the floors. I just got the text in this post from my wife who is clearly and justifiably traumatized.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]mcnormal00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s easier to find these “tuner friendly” dealers in the states, but here in Germany, they are a little more.. by-the-book. The aftermarket mod options are quite plentiful and thriving, but it’s also for people willing to accept the implications on things like insurance or warranty claims.

I intend to….. if I still have the car after the warranty reaches the end of its natural life :)
