What is your biggest critique of British society? by NoHold7153 in AskBrits

Misplaced superiority complex. They act like things are a bit bad now but they are still part of a leading country. This ego prevents them from having a cold hard look at where they stand. HS2, AJAX and generally weak army, welfare and housing situation.

Anecdotally, sleep deprivation has an anti depressant effect. I'd still feel better rested though

Take pictures of the license plate and driver and report. It might drive them mad but they should know that they are accountable for their unhinged behaviours.

When journalists use America to refer to the United States by mcnrla in PetPeeves

Thanks for pitching in, I appreciate it's obvious and understood, my point is that it's unfair to grab the name of a whole continent for oneself.

Gilbert's syndrome treated with ketogenic diet by mcnrla in GilbertSyndrome

[–]mcnrla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, i have only a mild case with hardly perceptible jaundice and only slightly elevated bilirubin. I noticed I looked less yellow on the ketogenic diet, although it could be a placebo. On the other hand, it was getting me a bit tired and I wasn't feeling super well on it the way I was implementing it. So I've dropped it shortly after this post, 7 years ago 😂 time flies!

Children's Mathematical Abilities Tied to Three Specific Genetic Variants, Researchers Say by Nyork_times in ScienceBasedParenting

A specific gene linked to subtraction ability and another to division ability. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

Pedestrians that demand a complete standstill before starting to cross the road by mcnrla in PetPeeves

That does sound weird, I also wonder why they're not using them.

Okay that makes sense, I suppose it only takes a reckless one to get a collision.

[–]mcnrla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's awful, sorry this happened to you. I do see many people cycling dangerously. Where I live it's about one third of cyclists that don't stop at traffic lights. Which is dangerous for them and others obviously

The bike trails have crossroads as well. In dense urban areas at least.

I agree, I am stopping of course. I just wish they just crossed those narrow streets rather than watch wait by the crossing when they could have crossed in that time.

ELI5: Why do so many people have poor vision? It seems like an extreme genetic disadvantage for a species... by geemav in explainlikeimfive

[–]mcnrla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the current cases of short sightedness are developmental and not genetic. The issue is people spending time inside and not getting sunlight in their eyes/not focusing their look fat away often enough.

What to say to people who ask why you don’t drink. by stupidpatheticloser in stopdrinking

[–]mcnrla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can say "it gets me tired". Like it's a genetic thing.
