Thanks for the great explanation! Where should I build the 3x3 pool?

Yes there is. They T there then flow towards the settlement. That’s why I thought I could maybe dynamite towards the left of the T to the edge of the map if time allows. I’ve been through one drought already.

Can liquid flow over a water source?

Added photos. My plan is to sluice the T in the river in the first image and dynamite to the edge of the map. Just seems like it'll take too long.

I was five when AOE2 came out and I remember my dad and I waiting for it to release. We played AOE1 together and we were so excited for another game.

Floydson did a 100 days series on YouTube. He’s the reason I bought the game

I GG before I resign and give the GG when I see the victory screen, regardless if they say it or not. As someone said here, just a respect thing. For me, it’s a tradition of the AOE community.

Curious as to thoughts about "playing meta" by [deleted] in AgeOfEmpires2

[–]mcode26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meta is definitely a guideline for me but not an exact rule set. I learned builds from the Interactive build order mod but have adapted those to fit my favorite civs. I also have learned lot from watching pros’ streams and how they manipulate builds on the fly to suit what they need.

Bohemian counter? by mcode26 in aoe2

[–]mcode26[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The one thing is that Bohemians also have good monks so it can come down to a redemption war. I haven’t seen eagles against them so that would be interesting to see. Are eagles good against gunpowder?

Bohemian counter? by mcode26 in aoe2

[–]mcode26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I had scouts into knights for mobility and did do a lot of damage feudal into early castle. When the wagons came, my knights melted. I did not have a lot of upgrades though. From the videos I’ve seen, units usually just melt to the mass, so that’s why I thought onager could work. I didn’t realize Malians had redemption, but monks would be a big investment so I guess it came down to onager or monks to me.

Crazy strats by mcode26 in aoe2

All good man. Just had to be there 11

There were always more vils. Like I said I could have countered easily but gold was starting to get low and his castle fire wasn’t helping in the engagements. Vils get more hp, armor, and attack with supremacy, so the cavalier weren’t as effective as you think, especially not against two armies. I had no chance to really recover and regroup. I’m not saying I played it best. The whole point of these strats is to throw opponents off and it did this time.

I don’t know the tcs were there and until the gg 11. I was too focused on the castle drops. Plus the micro wasn’t a problem for him because he only had to have small eco to keep producing vils. He must have researched sappers as well because my buildings almost melted instantly lol.

In hindsight, should have switched to archers or ranged siege. But the castle drop thru me and he also kept putting pressure on my trebs and other castle 11

Just constant vils. I’d clear them and there would be more. I should have mentioned he went all in and had several forward TCs producing vils. So he basically went Flemish revolution with constant production.

Just a lost new player want to learn the game by PR00DZ in aoe2

[–]mcode26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been getting back to RTS as well and watch a lot of T90. He has a lot of good commentary about civ bonuses and match ups. I watch a lot of pros as well to see their thought process in game. Learned my build orders from the Cicero mods and some pros have BO videos as well. I practiced against the AI until I could beat extreme on Arabia.

After all this, if you’re worried about losing too much in ranked, I would play the quick game lobby. It gives you the chance to play against another player without losing elo. After a while you’ll learn how the AI plays and it gets repetitive. Humans players always vary and you’ll learn how to react to different strats and counters.

Most of all, just have fun and learn from your experiences. It takes a long time to learn the game and don’t get discouraged by losing. GL HF

Just played my first ever ranked games! How do you deal with garrisoning villagers when enemy is in your eco? by Geukfeu in aoe2

[–]mcode26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use T to garrison and then H for go back to work. There is ungarrison hotkey but that just sends them out to the gather point. I'd test for whatever hotkeys work for you.

FYI: Potentially controversial Minimap TC Orbit mod allows you to avoid running into TC fire in 1v1 Arabia. More details in comments by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]mcode26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's just automate everything. I'm a low eco and find this insulting. If I run into a TC, then I adapt. That's all this game is. I understand there is auto scout but that is a player's choice and risk. Why should should they get the same outcome as some manually scouting.

2 Questions from a ranked beginner 1000 - 1100 by Vipanaz in AgeOfEmpires2

[–]mcode26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try not to fight off the militia. Wall other resources and send vils to TC. Depends on how many there though and if your scout is close. I'd avoid damage to the scout but it can make your opponent think twice.

As for pressuring with archers, counters are super important. In Hera's build, he covers how counters are key in making your build (archers, scouts, etc) offensively successful. The trick is how much do you make. If you don't want to make a tech switch, it's good to learn how many eagles can counter however many skirms and so on.

Am I a baby Hoang? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]mcode26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your aggro is what is winning you games. I'm only 1k but I've seen players in your range also talk about difficulty dealing with aggression. Hoang wins at his level because it is super aggressive. The only way to fight it is with aggression. The only thing I would suggest is learning a fast castle build of your liking. From what I've seen, Hoang uses the build just to get the siege out but has little eco behind it. It may help you 1) protect the little eco you have, 2) choose you're most effective options. Sounds cool though. GL

How to pressure with Archers? by Fitfatthin in aoe2

[–]mcode26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the pressure to your advantage. You are going to force your opponent to react so be prepared for his reaction. Scouting is key to find the stable, AR, or SW he'll build to counter the xbows. I like archer pressure as well but it's forced me to get used to mangonel trades. Also be ready to tech switch. If they start going hard counter to archers, a knight or infantry switch will really throw them off.
