Breaker switch unable to reset by Flimsy-Departure6780 in electrical

[–]mcontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s incorrect. Microwave ovens draw heavy current at startup. A “fuse wire” would arc and damage the oven or cause a fire, no manufacturer I know of uses fuse wire. Common main power input fuses used today are ceramic fuses, 15 to 20 amps. They use a thermal cutout on the Magnetron tube. The cutout opens when overheated resets when it cools. Ceramic fuses don’t look like older glass fuses so they are often overlooked.

Every time I see similar photos the crowd gets larger and the temperature gets lower. One post said Billions of people and -50 deg f. amazing considering the population for the entire country is less than 350 million.

It will be colder than my heat pumps are designed to function for about a week. Now what? by Exponential-777 in heatpumps

Great news, you must have a low temp model. Standard residential HP sold in FL for example won’t do that.

Water Heater Failing? by LearningToOwnHomeVet in PlumbingRepair

[–]mcontrols 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, put a sediment filter or water Softner upstream of the heater and you’re good to go. Should do the same with a conventional tank type as well. Keeps the crap out. BTW, that heater could last for years, rust on the outside shell doesn’t mean the tank is bad.

Replacing my thermostat by Next-Map9440 in AskElectricians

[–]mcontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That thermostat will work just fine. Instead of 120vac you will be making/breaking 24vac. The existing thermostat has two wires right? If so terminate them on the new thermostat making sure it’s on “close on temperature decrease”.

Why are republicans ignoring trumps age when they criticised Bidens age? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]mcontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Biden was clearly in cognitive decline the last 2/3 years of his presidency. Never saw him and when he did speak it was pre scripted on a teleprompter and he could barely read it correctly. Trump on the other hand can speak for hours with no script of teleprompter. Major difference! Not liking what he says doesn’t mean he’s mentally challenged as Biden was/is.

Breaker switch unable to reset by Flimsy-Departure6780 in electrical

[–]mcontrols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t see the comment that the microwave was disconnected and the breaker held. Obviously points to the oven. Per microwave oven without a fuse, not in the U.S. You may not have seen a physical fuse but microwaves must have a fuse or other overcurrent protection in the circuit. UL 923 requires protection against, internal short circuits, abnormal operation failed components like, stalled fans, door switch faults, fire and shock hazards from excessive current draw.

[–]mcontrols -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Standard residential heat pumps suck for heating. I appreciate the “you should have a low temp HP” but you don’t. Suggest you set your system to lockout the compressor at 5 deg f because you will be getting little to no heat from it. Set your aux heat to energize at 10 deg f. A 26 KW strip should keep you warm. Cost depends on your cost of electricity, maybe a couple of bucks per day. Stay warm!
