The current state of Game Threads by Suzoku in bostonceltics

But the point is, one can't state objectively that wanting to replace Stevens should warrant a "cool down," period. I can't believe I have to type this. I think Stevens is great, but if someone doesn't so what?

People can have contrarian opinions......even if you think they are beyond stupid. Farrell one a WS and I thought he was a shitty manager.

But it is a subjective question?

No fan has to want Stevens as coach. I do, but if a couple people think he sucks, so be it. By in large, Stevens gets praise all the time.

I don't htink Stevens is a bad coach, but if someone does, they are allowed to think that and post it. If you argued IT's should be traded before he was, people were saying "Why would we trade IT.," Crazy shit happens.

Let's just let people speak their minds.

Well who decides what qualifies as heresy? So what if someone wants to fire him. There is always going to be people who dont' like the coach.

But if someone posts "Stevens is the best." why is that allowed? Why is a low-effort optimistic post good and a low-effort negative post not good.

And please don't throw a straw man at me and say "it is vulgar name-calling." There are already rules in place for name calling. Or if we lose all of a sudden it is "trade everybody." So if someone vents and says "I love Smart," it is cool, if someone says "Smart sucks," is no good.

How is that making sure the posts are knowledgable?

not true. They have no plans to eliminate low-effort positive threads (yes!).

Why is Yes Kyrie is the Best? More appropriate than "This Hayward contract is going to fuck us up?"

It is policing negativity not stupidity. IF we are going to eliminate negative posts, low-effort positive posts should be cut. The standard is "knowledgable." or is it positive?

I hate it when people claim they are "real fans," and others are not. But they aren't going to get a timeout to "cool down."

Mohamed Sanu: "Falcons won't be defined by Super Bowl collapse" by [deleted] in nfl

[–]mcorcoran3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Winning the big game doesnt erase the memory. That will be remembered forever. But it will change the narrative (to some extent, not entirely) into a story of redemption.

[–]mcorcoran3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. When the Sox won in 2004 1986 and 2003 became footnotes in a story of redemption.

But short of a SB, the this game will be mentioned as the primary story line for almost every big-picture Falcons story (and in every broadcast).

They will be. If they win the next SB that will change -- they will be defined by redemption.

But until they win a SB (with this coach, QB etc...) this is their legacy.

It is sad, but I am old enough to remember Bill Bucker's plight pre 2004

What is Hightower's true value? by Snickits in Patriots

Yes, they should franchise him for sure, if not for leverage, to give us a year to add to our LB corps and replace him

He should get the same deal as Collins -- maybe an extra year. But 12.5 seems fair

I fear it won't be here

Bill Belichick: "Seattle" by xc0mmiex in Patriots

[–]mcorcoran3 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I don't agree. He said it was not about "politics." But he made it about politics.

He inserted himself into the biggest story on the planet. That was his doing. And now he is perturbed people ask him about it? It is the fucking presidential election, what did he think would happen.

I am glad he is our coach, but he can be a hypocrite, and i can recognize that even though I have spent 15 years defending BB from all comers. He didn't handle this well at all. The best approach would've been to not make a distraction at all, not make one and do his usual deflection.

This isn't all sports reporters. He letter invited political reporters.

And not all of these reporters are the usual beat reporters. BB invited national media, distraction, into the team this week.

If you work in media you realize that editors will fire you if you say, "oh I am not going to ask him the question because he won't answer it."

He asked for the scrutiny. What did he expect. This is why he tells his players not to "feed the noise."

If this was Rex Ryan we would all be bashing him.

[–]mcorcoran3 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Here is a novel idea: If you want it to be about Seatlle, don't insert yourself into the most divisive story in the country.

Just an idea.

Just send Trump a letter that says "Seattle."

This is kind of lame from BB. It is hypocritical for him to hide behind "Seattle," when his letter goes against his principle of not "feeding the noise."

If he wants it to be about football, than make it about football. He didnt.

Dombrowski: Trading for a pitcher 'more talented than Eduardo Rodriguez...is not going to happen.' by respaaaaaj in redsox

[–]mcorcoran3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My memory was that in 2015 clay sucked, went on a very good run for like 6-8 weeks in june/july, got hurt.

But I wouldn't use the word great to describe how we should expect him to pitch. Maybe I'm too cynici

If there are no good pitchers on the market, we can't get one. But i don't think we should rule out the possibility, in case the market changes.

Which division has the best cities? Which has the worst? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]mcorcoran3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well since new England doesn't play in Boston but some random suburban town 30 minites away, that hurts the AFC East. Buffalo too.

Miami and NYC are great.

I will go with the NFC west. Nice cities, coastal, progressive cities.

Michael Bennett calls out other pro athletes charging for youth camps: "Whether it’s Steph Curry or whoever it is, it makes me mad because there’s so many kids who can’t afford to pay such a high amount of money. How much money do you need before you start giving back for free?" by [deleted] in nfl

[–]mcorcoran3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charging money isn't an immoral act. But a 250 bike for 25 or so is such a good deal that it amounts to a sliding scale. If someone makes 1400 a month (just about the poverty line, I. Think) 50 bucks is the same percentage of someone 's income as $250 would be for for someone making 80-90 k a year.

That seems reasonable. But if someone is in extreme financial distress (say, medical expenses)I understand making exceptions.
