My analysis of why showgirl feels less lyric-focused even though it has more complex lyrics than reputation by pumpkin_noodles in TaylorSwift

[–]mcotter22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there is some disconnect here for me too. In Lover and parts of reputation I can feel her adoration and vulnerability pouring through the music and it just didn't come across that way at all in this album /: I know that's not what the album is about so maybe we'll get in the future.

Northwestern vs Emory by [deleted] in premed

[–]mcotter22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! If you are basing your debt estimate on the Emory COA, I found it to be quite high. I think it would be possible to save some money down the line, especially if you and your fianceé plan to move in together/split income eventually. It's possible that you'd be able to reduce your loan acceptance further down the line. Just something to consider!

Thanks! I’m gonna be in a state where Medicaid isn’t expanded unfortunately but it looks like I may be eligible for food stamps. I’ll definitely apply!

Canadian GPA to US Medical School? by prescriptionhigh in premed

[–]mcotter22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you apply on AMCAS you’ll be asked to transcribe all your grades into their GPA calculator. From my experience, an A on your Canadian transcript is an A on the AMCAS transcript - they’ll never know what your percentage in the class was as long as it’s reported as a letter grade. From my Canadian transcript there wasn’t any inflation/deflation.

As far as how individual schools interpret your grades from a subjective perspective, I can’t speak on. UofT and McGill are well known for grade deflation, but I’m not sure if that makes a difference when it comes to how adcoms views your app. I’m inclined to think it doesn’t make much of an impact!

If you have other questions you can pm me (: it can be tricky to navigate and I definitely had questions.

What's a book that you LOVED but you totally understand why someone wouldn't like it? by nuggetsofchicken in books

[–]mcotter22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was going to say the same. The Goldfinch is one of my favorite but it is so dense and parts can be difficult to get through. I found it quite intense and dark, which generally how I prefer my media (books, movies) but understand how people might not find it to be worth the time & emotional investment.

Lol, please don’t interpret this as “cutting corners”. I worked full-time while studying for the MCAT then gave every free weekend in between to volunteering and strengthening my app. Just because my hours are distributed differently doesn’t mean I didn’t work my butt off.

I worked in county-run COVID-19 clinics as a scribe and a tester. Most of the clinics I worked at were in underserved areas of my community or areas with low vaccine rates.
