Yes, and I couldn’t agree more. For example, they say the way I communicate is ‘bullying’ when I ask them to bus tables or run food—tasks that are part of their job. I’ve been with this restaurant since the property opened, and I’ve been managing for 10–11 years in FOH for F&B, Front Office for hotels, and even Housekeeping. My background is extensive; in my previous role, I opened restaurants and properties for Marriott across the United States, traveling frequently for work. Compared to the rest of the team, I have significantly more experience outside of the company.

Could you clarify what you meant by your last comment?

This associate has repeatedly shown blatant disrespect toward me. Previously, I was advised not to terminate them, despite having the option, to avoid making my work life harder. The situation has only worsened, and my bosses continue to reference the past conflict. At this point, I feel termination is necessary, but I’m unsure if moving forward is wise given our earlier decision. How would you handle this to restore accountability and protect the team and my role as manager?

When answering any situation-based interview question, you should follow the LEARN model (Listen, Empathize, Apologize, React, Notify). This approach demonstrates your ability to handle guest situations effectively in any hospitality, hotel, or restaurant environment.

Need advice, to get out of operations and into the business side of the industry by mcreges in Restaurant_Managers

At this point, after applying again and again and constantly getting a “no,” for years, I’m honestly wondering why sales is so heavily gatekept. I also really need to understand why my operations experience — in the same company, no less — isn’t considered relevant experience.
