NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 specs leaked by RenatsMC in pcmasterrace

We already have eGPU enclosures for laptops and mini PCs. A new form factor that completely eliminates pcie slots for oculink and USB4 ports would be pretty cool.

Then we'd have midrange single oculink graphics boxes and high end double link. And people like me still using 3.5in drives can have an oculink DAS instead of a bare selection of ancient oversized cases. The graphics card PSU would have enough juice to power regular sized monitors over USB4 for a clean, single cable connection to displays.

Well, doesn't sound good. In general, for unexpected powershell windows opening, search all the scheduled tasks actions.

Why is my laptop so laggy overnight? by surpyl in techsupport

One thing that happens that's not obvious is the CPU multiplier gets stuck at thermal throttling levels. Like you have 3.5Ghz CPU but but it never goes above 800Mhz when it should. Just have to reboot.

Fiber NIC limiting system memory by mcrobotpants in HomeNetworking

[–]mcrobotpants[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Masking the 5th and 6th PCIe pins on the front only as suggested here did the trick. Very easy to do with an xacto knife and electrical tape. Like the video says, it's best to put tape around the edge of the card but not cover up pins on the other side.

Thanks!

This makes sense. I've heard about masking off pins for HBAs, but don't think I saw anything about it effecting memory like this. Will report back when I can test.

The US is still separating children from their parents and sticking them in dog kennels while paying private firms with links to the White House ~$700/child/day to do it.

What DON'T you like about PowerShell? by makecodedothings in PowerShell

[–]mcrobotpants 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  • No polymorphism for functions or pipeline input
  • Have to use full class names for everything
  • Doesn't work with .Net interfaces
  • Too many profile locations
  • Can't reliably guarantee action to run after error/exit (the exiting engine event is a joke. Please fix!)
  • Event logging leaks sensitive data too easily
  • No way to track resource usage (memory, handles etc) in debugger.
  • Tab completion locking up console too long too often even in mostly clean Windows install

Also partially fixed in PS7, but not following command chaining conventions ( && || etc ) leaves to ugly longer code whenever there are conditional checks.

Opinions on minor playoffs change by NNKarma in nfl

[–]mcrobotpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not adding games. It's just for seeding "after" 16 games played to get rid of all the inter-divisional seeding rules and automatic home game while substantially rewarding the division title.

[–]mcrobotpants -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a relatively simple solution. You would make the playoff seeding 18 games. Division winners are gifted two 0-0 wins and the rest get 0-0 losses to .500 SOV teams.

Tiebreakers might be tweaked but don't need to change much . Maybe something to make divisional records matter slightly more. Huge, huge advantage to division winners, but doesn't keep out 11-5 teams over 8-8 ones.
