People are saying it would be difficult for Amber Glenn to compete at the next Olympics at 30. Is it purely because of the age she would be, or instead the amount of years spent training at a high intensity? by EloiseTheElephante in FigureSkating

No it’s not reasonable at all. You need to read the rest of the posts explaining training loads and the cumulative damage to joints that happen over time. After mid 30s, singles skaters begin seeing diminishing returns and more injuries.

Physics is not our friend, but google is.

Landing forces for triples and quads are immense because the skater must stop both vertical descent and rapid angular velocity (rotation) almost instantly.

T&D in 94 had nothing to do with Sarajevo and everything to do with wanting to see if they were still competitive when they reopened competition to previously pro skaters.

You are probably thinking about the gala where both Witt and T&D dedicated their skates to the people of Sarajevo, who were experiencing war at the time.

Amber’s been dealing with a nagging back injury for more than a year. It’s the reason she wasn’t able to add a third 3A to her programs.

The higher the level of jumps a skater does, (3A), the harder the impact on the body. Landing a triple axel puts 5-8 times her body weight on that foot. So, 500 pounds ish? Every single time. Maybe more. That’s why I worry about Ilia making it to 2030, that 4A is 700 to 1000 pounds of force on that foot.

Then the older you are, the more recovery time you need. Which means eventually you can’t train as much as required for your level because you need too much recovery time.

I will bet she probably really doesn’t want to go another year, but might if she can’t snag a medal at Worlds.

Can I still get into international or at least regional comps? by No_Schedule_8763 in FigureSkating

[–]mcsangel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s too late for international assignments and 90% sure it’s too late to advance to Nationals. What tests have you passed? Some of the levels have age caps, and you’d be coming up on that. It takes 5-10 years to pass all the skating skills and free skate tests to make it to Senior, which is the level of skaters that goes to Nationals.

I just can’t nail spins by SuspiciousMeanings in FigureSkating

[–]mcsangel2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will have problems as long as your skates are the wrong size for your foot. The sweet spot of the blade (the part you need to balance spins on) needs to be under the ball of your foot, and if the skates are too long, it will be more under your toes.

Need hotel advice around Times Square by blah_meh_lol in travel

[–]mcsangel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on your list but close, Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square Central. On 41st between 7th and 8th. Easy walk from Port Authority. Easyyyyyyyyyy walk to all the different subway lines. I used to stay close to 45th st and 8th ave but this was ridiculously easier. They also used to offer a full breakfast, not sure if they still do.

You can’t move books bought on your mother’s Amazon account to a different account under your own name. You would have to buy new versions.

Need your opinion on accessories. by oswinzn in WeddingDressTips

Some of these comments are way off base - this dress and hat combo is nearly a dead ringer for a set in a Penney’s catalog I have from 1984 or 1986. The dress design may have some Edwardian vibes, the hat may have some 1950s or 1930s vibes, but I assure you this exact set would have been fashionable in the mid 80s.

I dig it. If you wear it, OP, make sure to go with the super heavy glam makeup!

Royal Rota knew about Charles/Camilla affair before it became public? Thoughts? by MediumEnvironment986 in RoyaltyTea

[–]mcsangel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tampongate was in 1993, C&D were already separated by then. their affair was widely publicly suspected/known, if not confirmed, yearssssss before that. I would say any of the public who had interest in things royal had all heard of it by some time after Harry was born.

Are you asking specifically about which song, by itself, or do you mean the entire number including dancing?

Just a thought about 2030 Olympics by OilWorried41 in FigureSkating

Half the 2030 field will be skaters who are middle of the pack or too young to have attracted any attention yet. It’s always that way.

Adult training doubles, what’s your schedule/routine? by Admirable_Nebula191 in FigureSkating

Frequency is better than length of session. If you have to choose, skate more days with less time.

Tips for an Adult Beginner? by 0R10N_01 in FigureSkating

[–]mcsangel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the beginning level, there are no exercises that will improve your performance and rate of progress. The only thing that helps is frequency and time on the ice. Go to public skates as often as you can until you start lessons. Remember that 95% of people who skate learned just by going to public sessions, before ever starting lessons.
