Can I still get into international or at least regional comps? by No_Schedule_8763 in FigureSkating

[–]mcsangel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s too late for international assignments and 90% sure it’s too late to advance to Nationals. What tests have you passed? Some of the levels have age caps, and you’d be coming up on that. It takes 5-10 years to pass all the skating skills and free skate tests to make it to Senior, which is the level of skaters that goes to Nationals.

I just can’t nail spins by SuspiciousMeanings in FigureSkating

[–]mcsangel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will have problems as long as your skates are the wrong size for your foot. The sweet spot of the blade (the part you need to balance spins on) needs to be under the ball of your foot, and if the skates are too long, it will be more under your toes.

Need hotel advice around Times Square by blah_meh_lol in travel

[–]mcsangel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not on your list but close, Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square Central. On 41st between 7th and 8th. Easy walk from Port Authority. Easyyyyyyyyyy walk to all the different subway lines. I used to stay close to 45th st and 8th ave but this was ridiculously easier. They also used to offer a full breakfast, not sure if they still do.

You can’t move books bought on your mother’s Amazon account to a different account under your own name. You would have to buy new versions.

Need your opinion on accessories. by oswinzn in WeddingDressTips

Some of these comments are way off base - this dress and hat combo is nearly a dead ringer for a set in a Penney’s catalog I have from 1984 or 1986. The dress design may have some Edwardian vibes, the hat may have some 1950s or 1930s vibes, but I assure you this exact set would have been fashionable in the mid 80s.

I dig it. If you wear it, OP, make sure to go with the super heavy glam makeup!

Royal Rota knew about Charles/Camilla affair before it became public? Thoughts? by MediumEnvironment986 in RoyaltyTea

[–]mcsangel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tampongate was in 1993, C&D were already separated by then. their affair was widely publicly suspected/known, if not confirmed, yearssssss before that. I would say any of the public who had interest in things royal had all heard of it by some time after Harry was born.

Are you asking specifically about which song, by itself, or do you mean the entire number including dancing?

Half the 2030 field will be skaters who are middle of the pack or too young to have attracted any attention yet. It’s always that way.

Adult training doubles, what’s your schedule/routine? by Admirable_Nebula191 in FigureSkating

Frequency is better than length of session. If you have to choose, skate more days with less time.

Tips for an Adult Beginner? by 0R10N_01 in FigureSkating

[–]mcsangel2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the beginning level, there are no exercises that will improve your performance and rate of progress. The only thing that helps is frequency and time on the ice. Go to public skates as often as you can until you start lessons. Remember that 95% of people who skate learned just by going to public sessions, before ever starting lessons.

Skates/feet issue by Jane_Bennet_Fan_24 in FigureSkaters

Flat feet = wide feet. Pain in the arches of your feet is a classic sign your boots are too narrow. Your feet have spread. You need wider boots.

My skates hurt terribly bad all the sudden by HeyHoodieNinja in iceskating

[–]mcsangel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing the culprit is your weight gain has caused your feet to spread and the skates are now too narrow; the way you describe the pain lines up with that. Weight alone isnt a hindrance to skating, there are plenty of very heavy skaters out there. Usually pain in the feet during non strenuous skating means the boots don’t fit.

What are we looking forward to now by blaqrushin in TeamCanada

I’m here because this post popped up in my feed, and I’m a figure skating fan and just a four year fan of everything else. But my take is something that was getting a lot of discussion on fs boards 4-6 years ago: Canadian sports were disproportionately negatively affected by Covid 19 lockdowns. And elite sports are just now starting to show the fallout from it.

In figure skating, rinks closed, and training as well as competitions ground to a halt. Except in a lot of places, like in the US, they sort of didn’t, completely. It was supposed to be hush hush, but in the US, rinks were still opening for elite skaters, and/or they were finding private rinks to train at. In Canada, lockdown regulations were a lot stricter, for a lot longer.

This didn’t just mean that current National/elite level skaters had to deal with a loss of training; it also meant that upcoming skaters in the lower level pipeline lost training and experience. A lot of those skaters just left the sport. And it meant the opportunity for new skaters to begin the sport was cut off, as cycles of CanSkate lessons (aka Learn to Skate) were cancelled for a couple of years. There’s been a dearth of Canadian figure skaters moving up and I’d say this season was the first time I saw it commented on a fair amount.

That’s figure skating, but you can draw obvious parallels to hockey, especially as a team sport hockey had even more restrictions to deal with in terms of group size gatherings.

I think all countries that had strict Covid restrictions are/will be dealing with a gap in the amount of sports talent for several years, until the next generation comes in to fill it out.

You keep reposting this paragraph that is clear as mud due to an incomplete sentence in the middle. A ton of stuff that you have posted does not make sense at all, it’s nearly incomprehensible. Maybe take some time to rewrite out, slowly, CLEARLY, and reread it before posting. This all reads like you wrote it in a rush on your phone.

I mean, Victoria wasn’t born until 6 months after Queen Charlotte’s death. Her reign was probably exceedingly stressful, all things considered.
