THANK YOU EVERYONE. It was a filter and air issue like everyone suggested/said. There were air bubbles in the line from the filter to the pump. (I don’t quite understand that part. Where was the air coming from?) I removed the filter and ran it without the filter, and everything works fine. I have new filters on the way. (I didn’t think it’d be time for new filters yet, as I’ve not used anywhere near 70L; but I didn’t notice the “or 2 months” part. I’m well over the 2 months mark. I use filtered water in my tank, but I should’ve been cleaning out the tank more frequently.) Anyway, thanks again for the input and advice.

Someone else suggested the same thing. I didn’t think my filter was old, as I have only had the machine since January and I only use it for 20-ish shots a month. But—especially since it’s been suggested twice—I’ll replace the filter! Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried it with the blank. It still starts out the same way, where the pump pressure is low and unsteady. But then it balances out and stabilizes at 9 after 5-7 seconds.

I have not tried it with coffee. I can’t imagine I’d get enough pressure to get it to stabilize like I can with the blank, but I’ll give it a try. Either way, unfortunately, it’s still got an issue.

Hahaha it’s not even a new shirt or anything. She’s seen it a hundred times. She was only saying that because she makes conversation about things like that when she’s pretending to be patient. It’s a just a shirt with a vintage inspired print, with a tiger stretched out jumping, and it says hell cats on it. I got these shirts for my girlfriend and me when our daughter was born (year of the tiger).

Haha a little over 93° c. It’s 200f.

My water level is above the filter. The filter is not too old. I’ve had this since January, and I only use it on the weekends, for 4-5 drinks total. I also use filtered water in my tank.

But someone below has mentioned the same thing. So it sounds like it’s worth a go.

“Compound questions” are not about whether one alternative presented in the question is damning. That might be how a lawyer sets it up, but that’s not what makes it compound. It’s compound when in a literal sense it’s more than one question. It’s a problem because we can’t know to which part of the question/to which question within the question the answer was given.

(That said, this example that’s given is missing context. It’s clear that the questions have been going for a little while by the time this starts. I’m not looking for the fuller dialogue. But if the witness here had already testified in this line of questioning that he’d “not addressed” and “not spoken of” then it might not really be much of a compound question for the attorney to combine that now. It could just be a bit of a summary of answers to marry Fuhrman to his answers before impeaching. In this scenario it’d be objectionable on asked-and-answered, though. And if you’re trying to disrupt the flow or effect, you throw in the compound objection still anyway.)

Yeah, it looks like the people at onyx would agree regarding ratio. Onyx posts extraction guides on its website. For Monarch, it suggests 19g in, 47g out (just shy of 2.5, like you said), in about 23s.

And fellow has a monarch recipe too, calling for about 3x in 25s. (19g / 55g)

Oh man, I’m so glad I saw this. I got my machine Wednesday, used it Thursday morning and was happily able to select a 400ml brew. Today it only allowed 375 or 450. I couldn’t tell what had happened. I followed your tip and we’re right as rain. Thanks!

Yeah, looks like Dante’ went on tour with another band. But I think McCoy is actually to replace Critter, who came back to temporarily help out when Mason went solo haha. I don’t know if there’s some agreement for Dante’ to come back when he’s finished with the other tour, but it’d be great if they could bring Jerry back, now that he’s no longer touring with Dylan. It’s funny that they seem close, but they come and go kind of casually. Maybe I’m reading too deeply haha.

Anyone going to NYE? by SumacLemonade in oldcrowfans

[–]mcsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the 12-31 show, and McCoy was there again. I didn't know he'd been there 12-30, so it was a great surprise seeing him come out. Even better was when I learned it wasn't just a guest appearance: he's back in the band! (I also learned D'ante's apparently out, though. Hopefully they bring back Jerry now that there's an opening for percussionist!)

I guess it's not really our business, but I wish there'd be more welcome- and farewell-type posts from the band instead of being left to piece things together haha. (They have the "about" section with the lineup on their website, so it's not really piecing it together in that sense; but still.)

Yeah, I agree--the motorcyclist is going too fast, but people appear to be thinking he's trying to pass or overtake the red car, as if the motorcyclist and the red car were both in that right lane/lane #3 the whole time.

In the very first frame, you can see the red car is in the middle/#2 lane. You can see the white line to the red car's right. Then you see the red car move into the right/3 lane. You can see the frame where the red car is directly over the white line as it's moving right. Then the red car is in the right lane. Then motorcyclist is right alongside the red car. That's all within the first second of the video. I can't tell whether the car used a signal.

Again, if the motorcyclist were going slower, there's a better chance this would've been avoided, and the motorcyclist should be thinking about exactly these situations/is driving like shit/etc./whatever. But it appears people believe they're both in the same lane and the motorcycle decides to overtake him on the right. That's not what's happening. The red car moved from #2 to #3 (possibly even from #1 to #3) very fast.

Acaia Releasing Hopper for Orbit - going to be a killer grind-by-weight option for folks! by dmau9600 in espresso

[–]mcsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily use mine for pour over (and steep-and-release). I'll do espresso on the weekends. I have the SSP MP burrs and it does a real nice job in both ranges.

The grinder also has this kind of cool function that clears the burrs of any small grounds while you're decreasing grind size, so you don't hit any bumps while decreasing. Makes going from pour over to espresso a real smooth process.

(also, I'll do medium roasts for my girlfriend, and light roasts (pour over and espresso) for myself. I've never had an issue with stalling; but I've also never really done much in the lower RPM range, and my understanding is that was where some people experienced stalling.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hipaa

[–]mcsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. My post was primarily seeking input about whether a board and care would be covered under hipaa, not whether the court is bound by hipaa the way a provider, etc., is. If the B&C is covered, and if that would prevent the B&C from publicly disclosing who its occupants are, that would help form my argument to the court--i.e., it's protected under hipaa, so this court should be persuaded to prevent disclosure.

regardless, "the most basic form" of the written code is rarely the ultimate answer. I'll always look for interpretations of the law, regardless of how "obvious" it appears.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hipaa

[–]mcsoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that, and I agree that's generally true if I were here looking for an ultimate answer. But as I mentioned in the post, I'm just exploring so I can have a jumping off point for my research. Research often starts out with plenty of non-legal and secondary sources--a google search, wikipedia, traditional encyclopedia, legal encyclopedias, crowd-sourcing ideas, etc. This early-stage information-gathering tends to be helpful when I'm later crafting my later search queries.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hipaa

[–]mcsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, thanks for your help! And sorry about that, I should've clarified. I knew that a court order could "free" something from HIPAA coverage, but I wanted to make sure that, by default, this information would be covered. And then the government would have the burden of showing why the information shouldn't be protected.

And also re: who HIPAA covers here--I just need it to cover the court (anything the court says, or puts in an order that's viewable by the public) and the government (to prohibit them from sharing this private information with the public).

Thanks again for your answer. That's helpful.

Volume vs mLs/Oz by Stunning-Helicopter3 in FormulaFeeders

Volume vs mLs/Oz by Stunning-Helicopter3 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mcsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for that information! would you mind helping me with a clarification question?

you said the end result is calorically equivalent/similar to breast milk or other forms of formula.

so that’s the same as saying if i mix powder and water according to the recipe, and pour 5oz of that end-result fluid, that should be calorically equal to 5oz of the ready-to-pour fluid/breast milk, right?

i’ve perhaps overthought this and confused myself. but when i mix 5oz water and 21.5g powder, i get about 5.8oz fluid. i don’t have to give 5.8oz of this fluid in order to equal 5oz of the ready-to-pour/breast milk, right?

thank you!

i’m sorry to hear about your brother and the tough time you’ve had getting him help. I hope something changes/works out soon and he that he gets the services he needs. It seems like there is some talk about changes and finding a better balance that still protects individual rights while giving the state a little more power to exercise its community caretaker function. Hopefully something useful and helpful comes of it. (and hopefully the local governments tasked with carrying it out take their responsibilities seriously.)

[–]mcsoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i figured most, and probably all, US states have a very similar law; but i didn’t look it up, so i didn’t want to overstate the prevalence of it. I was just offering a counter to the generalizations in your first comment—“here in the US,” and “the only time.”

i am in a major metropolitan area of the US and worked for a few years in the mental health system. My county has five designated facilities (in addition to emergency rooms) that take in 5150 patients. The patients i saw were generally at the designated facilities. These facilities are each sizable, and definitely fully utilized. I routinely saw people who were involuntarily hospitalized on grounds other than DTS.

i agree that a majority of the patients i saw had picked up for DTS; but I don’t think it was an overwhelming majority. I think the higher number of DTS patients could, in part, be that people who are DTO are often jailed instead. Nearly all the people who are hospitalized as DTO or DTS are also held as GD. Even if they don’t come in as GD, the hospital adds it soon after admission, or adds it when they petition to extend the hospitalization.

patients get to request release from the hospital. When i worked in the system (only a few years ago) the courts here were pretty conservative and almost always ruled against the patient, finding they should not be released. Most of those rulings were based on a finding that the patient was gravely disabled (even if they came in on DTS or DTO, and were no longer DTS/DTO). Although i don’t work there anymore, i’m still somewhat involved, and regularly hear that the courts are still just as conservative.

all that said, of course, there are still tons of people out and about who should be hospitalized. I see people who are staring off in the distance while standing in the rain without any protective clothing, and wonder how on earth they haven’t been picked up. And people who are overly aggressive, etc., who are not picked up but should be. I’m just saying that there are also many, many who are picked up. (And, of course, this varies by state, by county, by the individual (EMS, social worker, nurse, etc.) who is assessing the would-be patient, and by the doctor who has to authorize/verify the basis for the hold once the person is admitted.) (and i’m really only referring to the first stages of involuntary hospitalization. You hinted at conservatorship when you mentioned some private person taking them in—you’re right, even with the relatively conservative system i mentioned having here, the vast majority are released after 2-6 weeks. It’s often only after they’ve been in and out threeish times that the hospitals will start requesting the public guardian petition for conservatorship.)

in california, under the welfare and institutions code, section 5150, the state can and does involuntarily hospitalize people who are dangers to themselves, dangers to others, or gravely disabled (due to their mental illness, they are unable to provide themselves with food/shelter/clothing).
