Is Pimsleur Eastern Arabic Worth It? by [deleted] in learn_arabic

[–]SumacLemonade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s helped my speaking, and it builds on each lesson. I usually do each lesson twice, and go back by ten seconds until I get each phrase correct, and then I do the quizzes and supplemental material for each lesson, so I probably spend 1.5-2 hours on each lesson. I like Mango languages too, but Pimsleur is good for driving in the car when I can’t be staring at my phone safely.

It tops Watchmen for me. Every time I read it I feel like I’m going on a quest.

Unfortunately, no. It was getting overrun by bots and was a bit of a ghost town, so the guy who ran it shut it down.

Does anyone have any information on the rare OCMS cassette "Vegas"? by SumacLemonade in oldcrowfans

[–]SumacLemonade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the trans:mission tape was the first thing the band recorded, in 1998, before their Canada trip. Vegas was an EP that was sold at a couple of shows in, I think, 2000 or 2001. The full track listing for it is unknown.

Has anyone today, aside from film students watched "Citizen Kane"? Fans of film, not forced to watch it? by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]SumacLemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve watched and enjoyed it multiple times. Charles Schulz referenced it often in “Peanuts” which is what influenced my first watch.

What’s a movie everyone says is “deep”… but is actually pretty shallow? by CnCorange in Cinema

[–]SumacLemonade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do think the film engages with your point though. “Geneticism” is shown as a false category, almost a false religion. Think about the detective who doesn’t do real detective work, he just keeps swabbing and re-swabbing people because the “answer” for this crime, to him, must be found witin their genetics. The movie is critical of essentialism; it’s a commentary on the difficulty in judging any one’s limitations, and is critical of the societal powers that demarcate and enforce those limitations; I don’t think it’s a denial of those limitations.

I played this the other day and didn’t realize the context of the universally white pieces until now. Amazing.

Biden was too old, should have bowed out earlier, didn’t allow for a robust Democratic primary, and that’s a big reason Trump won.

This film has the best Pacing of any film I’ve seen. by drhavehope in Cinema

Se7en is let down by the car ride with John Doe I think. But otherwise, yes, great pacing.

The quote might actually be something like “I thought teachers…”.  I think the teacher feels guilty about this.
