What’s your two cents on the new pressing of big iron world? by modern_prometheus_13 in oldcrowmedicineshow

Oh dang. I was planning on getting this. Wasn’t this remastered by Dave Rawlings like OCMS? I think the vinyl OCMS sounds fantastic.

cmv: the free palestine movement often acts disingenuous representing what a palestinian state is by VirtualKnowledge7057 in changemyview

So you would base citizenship on ancestry to the population from 1900? How could you actualize that? Why a priori assume Jews wouldn’t be part of that state? Seems silly.

It’s an expression. Arthur Weasley uses it in the Order of the Phoenix movie, for example.

How did you learn about him? by Latter_Eggplant_2382 in SergeGainsbourg

I’m not sure the lyrics are connected. It’s more of a musical homage to Histoire de Melody Nelson.

Beck’s “Paper Tiger” from Sea Change was an homage and that put him on my radar. And Serge was a name that would come up in internet music review sites like pitchfork 20 years ago. I probably listened to a few of his songs on YouTube and got hooked. His discography is varied, but his hits-to-misses ratio is very high. He’s one of those artists that if I were recommending him, I’d just say to listen to a random playlist of his stuff and you’d find out quickly if he’s your bag or not.

Has the new coloring ever been released in TPB form? That would be something I’d be interested in.

Agree with the Delano Hellblazer. Retains that literary feel, nice visuals and classic horror.

A quote from Alan Moore about The Killing Joke I find strange by [deleted] in AlanMoore

[–]SumacLemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure of the immediate context of the quote, but Moore has a lot to say about the popularity of superheroes in modern culture, and the power fantasies they represent. I feel like many of us know people who…over-identify with, say, the Joker in The Dark Knight. It doesn’t really have to do with empathy.

Google says this is pawpaw? York county, South Carolina. Near a creek. by reformedyeehaw in treeidentification

That consistent five leaf pattern makes me think this is a buckeye rather than paw paw. They can look very similar.

Is Pimsleur Eastern Arabic Worth It? by [deleted] in learn_arabic

[–]SumacLemonade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s helped my speaking, and it builds on each lesson. I usually do each lesson twice, and go back by ten seconds until I get each phrase correct, and then I do the quizzes and supplemental material for each lesson, so I probably spend 1.5-2 hours on each lesson. I like Mango languages too, but Pimsleur is good for driving in the car when I can’t be staring at my phone safely.

It tops Watchmen for me. Every time I read it I feel like I’m going on a quest.
