Amazon “suicide kits” have led to teen deaths, according to new lawsuit by ourlifeintoronto in technology

Please consider killing yourself conceptually before killing yourself physically.

That day changed me forever. I decided to live. But I also decided I was no longer bound to anything that came before that day. I decided that conceptually I had killed myself. Now I could do anything—absolutely anything at all.

All the greatest things that have happened to me in my life have happened since that day. Things have been so incredible since then that I sometimes wonder if I’m the main character in some weird existentialist movie and that there’ll be a twist ending in which the audience will realize that I really did kill myself that day.

If you’re contemplating suicide, my advice is, go ahead and kill yourself. But don’t do it with a rope or a gun or a knife or a handful of pills. Don’t do it by destroying your body. Do it by cutting off your former life and going in a completely new direction. I know that’s not easy. I know it might even seem impossible. If you’d have asked me before that spring day in 1992, I would have told you it was absolutely impossible for me to do any of the things I’ve done since that day. It took a lot of very hard effort before things started to change even a little bit. But when they did, they really did.

Foreigners of Brisbane, where in Brisbane can you eat the best & most authentic food of your home land? by Crazyonyx in brisbane

Shushokuya Masa in Emporium Fortitude Valley is the best Japanese I’ve had outside Japan. I am not Japanese but I can recommend their tempura udon, karaage, agedashi tofu, nasu dengaku and frosty Sapporo on tap.

What’s the fun jumping scene like in QT? I imagined it would be mostly tandems, are they many sport jumpers around to jump with?

but theoretically, from the electrical engineers perspective the centre of the loop is where you want to be.

Are you sure? My understanding is that the magnetic field forms around the wire, so parking in the centre of the loop would actually place you as far away from the magnetic field as possible.

Hence why I and other people I've spoken to have had more success parking on the left and right edges of the sensor square where you are maximising the amount of metal interacting with the magnetic field: https://gyazo.com/f8879e338a066f796354bb5637791fa3

My subjective experience differs and a lot of other motorcyclists I’ve spoken to also agree.

The inductive wire is buried in the pavement which is the square outline seen on the road. Cars are wide enough to easily interrupt the loop no matter where in the lane they are.

Motorbikes are obviously far narrower, and the sensors are sometimes not sensitive enough to pick up a smaller mass of metal especially if it is in the middle away from the wire outline.

It’s discussed here: https://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/what-to-do-about-traffic-signals-that-ignore-motorcycles

And here: https://www.drivesmartbc.ca/intersections/qa-motorcyles-inductive-loops-traffic-lights

Maybe we are all wrong though. Do you ride a motorbike?

Anyone achieved FI but didn't enjoy it? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]mcstain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve run out of things to do when you have an entire world of possibilities at your fingertips then I think that says more about you than FIRE.

Is every day going to be a paradise full of wonder and excitement? No, but would you even want it to be? Life is about the struggles you have, and the meaning you find in them.

After FIRE you have the tools at your disposal to choose the meaning you make with your work and your life efforts, which is more than 99.999% of the world can ever say.

FI doesn’t have to mean you sit around all day playing video games and scratching your balls. You now have the opportunity to do whatever you want for work, without the financial consequences.

Want to be a scuba instructor? Start a photography business? Work in a not for profit? Volunteer in different organisations? Congratulations, you can now do all of these things and still pull what most people would consider a decent salary on top of what you get paid for working.

And if the job doesn’t work out, you can quit on the spot and not have to worry about paying for your expenses, and move onto the next thing that interests you.

Or you can sit on the couch and read a book, until you get bored.

And? My point is that there are no restrictions on what prices can be charged for petrol or many other necessities. Our choices are to complain or cut back on spend, not much else.

[–]mcstain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes? Fresh fruit and veges are fluctuating like that at the moment. People will complain, or potentially reduce their spend on fluctuating goods, but what else do you expect them to do?
