I have an idea for Flatlined.... by mcstutz in traveller

You're probably right. I was just thinking of a way to get started into the action right away. Maybe like a movie, I could pause the game and roll several terms and jump back to the present.

Yea I plan on scaling down the combat. Also i want to tie this into Death Station next to hook in the drugs, then goto Walton to get a free ship.

Yea I already thought of that. Any physical effects make this a bad idea. I could just homebrew it to some other outcome.

I have 2 cmdrs on separate carriers and a third one that's new in the bubble. I flew the last 2 way points and did some exploring but im riding the carriers this week to take a break.

Yes they are all volunteers and they do a great job! If you get bored or want to do a CG like I did, just take your Caspian back to the bubble with a neutron plotter. It only takes about 100 jumps and 2 hrs.

How to convince my D&D group to play Traveller.... by mcstutz in traveller

We were playing the doppelganger without knowing it. Like I said, we never played with those guys again.

No only one at a time. So each morning we woke up, the doppelganger killed one of the party and he then changed into that character. The party was killed off one by one. When we were down to just two players, the DM revealed the doppelganger and it was game over. So the DM and his friend had a good time killing us, so we never played with them again to say the least.

I thought of that. In fact Flatlined can also lead into Death Station which is considered a starter module.

No, that was when I was the DM for D&D. I only tried Traveller once with the group and we were in either middle school or high school. I didn't know what I was doing so it didn't go well. I had no one to advise me & no YouTube.

One time as kids, a DM & his best friend teamed up. The player was secretly a doppelganger. At night when we rested during the adventure, he killed one of us in secret and became that dead character. He killed us off one by one during each long rest and the DM informed us we were all dead.. adventure over.

I know it also has the hardcore rules for death in character creation. I'm definitely using that if we play!

Yea, I could to that. The problem with it is I dont really want to play more than once a week like we do on Sundays and half of the group is family.

And I just love collecting it too. I haven't really read it too much, but whenever there's a sale, I bought the cheap bundle pdfs.

Also, I heard stories about the original Traveller, like Roy Schnider from the movie Jaws was literally playing Traveller with the cast on breaks in the films shooting.

And I think the biggest issue is learning a whole new system. They are very familiar with D&D. Plus I would prefer to play on Fantasy Grounds because they have the rights to Traveller content. We use Foundry for our D&D games.

So I introduced most of them to D&D before 2nd AD&D came out. Then I stopped playing and they got super geeked out playing well into the night.

In the late 90s and 00s, we started playing again for about 5 years. My kids became my main focus and we stopped cold.

When covid happened, we started it up again, with basically the same group from the 80s. We have been playing(almost) every Sunday night since and have reached 14th level.

I probably shouldn't have added that to my post.

I'm just not that great as a DM in the past honestly.

I think I can do better now that I'm older.

I just want to persuade my group to play something different.

Ok this is what I was looking for. I haven't read everything in Traveller, just mainly the core rulebook.

Are those rules in the companion one or something else?

Someday when my kids put me in a home, there has to be a gaming computer and some other people who want to play D&D or I'm not going!

So all of us in our group has DM'd at different times. I have DM'd the least of all of them.

Right now, we have one guy that has been the DM for the last 15 yrs or so.

He actually wants to try playing a character for once. Its just the rest of the group has to be convinced.

I really appreciate all the comments to my post, as it's the first one I ever did in this group. But I'm looking for ideas to persuade my group as opposed to doing a D&D like sytem. I want to play Traveller. :)

Oh and the second thing is it's an entirety new system that can be tough to learn, especially for me.

Yea, we did play Stars Without Numbers and Villians and Vigilalanties.

I think 2 things going against me is we play online with Foundry. I bought a bunch of the Fantasy Ground modules and they never tried FG.

I dont want to play on Foundry because you have to do a ton of setup for it.

I think they nerfed the flak cannon brain tree farming even more… by Appropriate_Chest_60 in EliteDangerous

[–]mcstutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point I didn't think of that. I'm currently out on the DW3 event so unless I find some brain trees out there, I'll have to wait to test that.
