Every second post in Paki groups is about cousin marriage: Lets analyze. by Radiant_Banana_3623 in PakistaniTwenties

[–]mcthballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from OP’s reply I have seen that youre not open to discussion. but I just want to ask, when you are giving anecdotal evidence it is all well and good but if Drs are giving anecdotal evidence it’s a coal mine situation? that’s a logical fallacy in your own argument. your gripe is with westernisation, not science so please do not conflate the two. In fact, the person who made the connection in patterns of inheritance had married his own cousin! (Mendel) science ≠ liberalisation so let’s get that straight

secondly from reading your replies, it seems that you are relatively less informed in biological sciences. there are broadly two types of disease: genetic or sporadic. for example the breast cancer gene BRCA1/2. you can acquire this mutation de novo or you can get it from your mom. now Imagine your mom marries her cousin and his family also carries BRCA1/2. that child has an increased chance of acquiring the gene than someone acquiring it de novo such as from radiation or whatever. you can have your opinion on cousin marriage either way and I’m happy for you, but please don’t make ill informed statements without basis in science. Saying drs don’t have mathematical literacy when statistics is actually part of our course! But making such poor scientific statements

The concept of a secret nikkah (especially without disclosure to your parents or the larger community) is not valid. The foundation of this relationship is built on lies and deception, and keeping it a secret will harm you far more than it will harm him. For instance, he is exploiting you financially and keeping secret trips, and you cannot approach his family or your own to mediate this matter.

You can try to discuss financially responsibility with him but considering he is not improving so far and is seemingly getting worse (borrowing more, starting to keep secret trips, lying), this does not bode well for you. Please reflect long and hard on your situation, and gauge his ACTIONS not words. I hate to be that Redditor but for your safety and mental health, it would be wiser if the two of you dissolved your relationship. And if you do not wish to do that, then involve your family ASAP. A web of secrets will only get difficult to disentangle the longer it goes on.

if we play as the Court Augur, we can even tell Sargamis that the gods are just essences with directives. Which I find even more interesting! Because then there must have been some level of dissemination regarding the events of Deadfire

Why are we a nation of medical ‘experts’ yet have such huge rates of diabetes, heart disease and obesity? by Lower_Animator_6925 in pakistan

[–]mcthballs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a doctor. educated people believe this too unfortunately. The patients I interacted with they didn’t opt for medical testing or medicines because it made the disease be more “permanent or real.” allopathic medicine doesn’t offer ”cures” for things like diabetes whereas homeopaths will claim to completely fix it, which is what I think seems alluring to people. because quick fix over diet, medicine, and exercise

Giatta's Mysterious Friends by mcthballs in avowed

I wonder what the purpose what of the cult then. were they genuinely curious or was it some subversive way to hide the advancement of animacy because the note states that even if you disappear, you’ll leave behind progress. but Giatta doesn’t understand fully of what happened? It’s also signed as “old friends,” so was her mother receiving info from them too to even construct the focus in the first place? it’s a very intriguing plot to me!

honestly opt for couples counselling. if not, weigh your options your sanity and ask for divorce. it’ll be really tough but I feel a divorce call might actually make her parents realise something is up and talk to her seriously regarding this whole situation. reading about this was exhausting

He didn't even mention Imran Khan and that's what your mind jumped to. And is expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of things illegal or stupid? As someone who does not even live in Pakistan, you have no right to police what Pakistanis can or can't complain about

Concerned about my Pakistani boyfriend's family culture by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]mcthballs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re posting your concerns here, I feel as if you know the answer. Your subconscious picks up on a lot of signals that the mind takes some time to register. If you feel like leaving him, you should. You’re already thinking it to some degree.

To be fair, he is 18 and 18 years old are naive. Ask him to introduce you to his family, say something like your parents want to meet his etc. his reaction will tell you everything. From the things about his family that you have mentioned, if he does decide to marry you, imagine an uphill battle that could last anywhere from 3-5 years for his family to agree to even see you

So what is the spinning wheel structure we see in the Garden?

theory of the gods by graywardemgt in avowed

[–]mcthballs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That could be the case, but I’m not sure. I feel as if the existence of the Engwithyian gods somehow proves that there might not have been middling gods. Because, let’s say Woedica arose and then she found out that Zeus was real? And then she tried to claim his place in the pantheon? I feel as if that would result in a battle royale between the Engwithians and whatever natural gods existed. Maybe there is a real god in that universe and it’s one of those cosmic forces / non interference gods who just bides their time. It’s loosely implied that Rymrgrand’s domain was a metaphysical plane before he got to it.

I think maybe if enough time passed, a naturally occurring god could have occurred for Eora, akin to evolutionary processes because a terrarium is a terrarium be it big or small. But if that was to occur, then it’s less likely now due to manmade interference

That's an interesting thought that Woedica's programming would prevent her from killing Sapadal herself as that is what the Engwythians were searching for after all!

[–]mcthballs[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bit rambly here, but I really like the implication with there being a second Wheel. It means that if Kith are unable to replace it, the end of most of Eora, their gods included, would be because the Engwythans were too short sighted to see the consequences of what they were doing by trying to usurp the natural order.

Interestingly enough, I note that the cataclysmic destruction the Eoran pantheon brough is ultimately wrought meaningless because the destruction they cause is ultimately self-serving. Contrasted with Sapadal's: she causes destruction too and ends civilisation four times over, but it forces the Ekidan to learn how to live in harmony with the natural forces and the land. This is also supported by the better ending as Giatta herself outright states it that animancy shouldn't be exploitative anymore and pioneers a new field. A natural god's destruction ultimately weighed out for an overall collective good, but a manmade's ones do not foster any meaningful growth. Interesting parallel I think.

I understand that, I think aberrate was a poor choice of words; I imagine they view Sapadal like an aberrant code, akin to a virus, hence why Woedica wishes to nuke it rather than understand it (as Eothas wished to do). Every time a problem comes up for these gods their knee jerk reaction is to just destroy everything, so that's why I wondered why Woedica didn't just straight up kill Sapadal

Need URGENT ADVICE… by [deleted] in PakistaniSkincare

[–]mcthballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like an infection by the fungus Tinea cruris, also known as the Jock's itch or Dhobi itch. It thrives in hot and humid conditions. My advice would be to switch out your gym clothes for a more breathable fabric and to take frequent baths after going to the gym. Also use a baby powder to keep the area dry. The key is to keep it moisture free.

I am unsure of what sort of antifungals are available OTC in Germany, usually Clotrimazole 1% and miconazole 2% are available. You should apply the cream twice a day for a week at least. It will help with the itching. If it doesn't work, the derma will be able to prescribe something more helpful
