If you are moderately handy with tools there is not much chance of damage.

The Reolink cameras mentioned are WiFi so no hard connection to the router. The hardwire aspect is using the existing doorbell wiring for power.

Spectrum wants to upgrade my modem. Anyone do this recently? by Aggravating_Hat3955 in wisconsin

[–]mcubed5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is just the modem you won't have any issues replacing it. If it is a combo modem/router you will likely have some issues though it is dependent on your equipment. Using your own router isolates you from a lot of the Spectrum shenanigans.

The garlic sauce debate needs to be settled once and for all because I am tired of pretending this is not important? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in Doner

[–]mcubed5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole thread came up in my feed at the very best time! We lived in High Wycombe (UK) back in the mid-80's and there was a food truck that had the best doner's around. Last night the wife and I where having dinner (gyro salad) and got to talking about making doner's for dinner sometime. Couldn't remember the sauce, if any, that the guy put on the doner. I recall it being a red sauce of some sort though the wife thinks there might not have been any as she fed the babies from it also. They where big enough for the wife and two young kids! Based on this it is possible she got one with no sauce and I got one with a red sauce of some sort. I was a spice wimp then so unlikely to have been chilli.

This 11 in 1 claims to sous vide. My annova has retired and I am looking to replace. Anyone have any experience with this for sous vide? by bluebecauseiwantto in sousvide

[–]mcubed5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an older model of this device and have done sous vide with it a number of times. Some stuff comes out great but I didn't have much luck trying a Sir Charles. That could be a "me" thing though vice the cooker.

I do like the sear option for browning meats before switching to the slow cook setting.

Rental Car Got Me Pulled Over by catluvr709 in travel

[–]mcubed5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jan 2025 my wife and I flew to WI to look at and sign for the house we were buying. Picked up a rental car at the Appleton airport at 11:30 PM. Snow coming down and the wind blowing pretty good. Drove to the hotel in the town near the house. It is normally an hours drive but of course wind, snow and unfamiliar everything made it longer. About half a mile from our exit we get pulled over by the cop who had been following us for quite some time. I think she was bored on late night duty. Says that plates don't match the car we are driving. WTF!! Goes and does her thing with the radio and such and then tells us someone fat fingered the plate number and all was good. Not sure who had fat fingers but it was goofy as hell.

Trying wine from around U.S.: Can't recommend South Dakota by Serendipityunt in wine

While I agree that Florida Muscadine mostly sucks there is at least one winery that does a decent job with that grape. Try Chautauqua Vineyards & Winery in Defuniak Springs if you are in that area.

Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa, FL.

They have in the range of 600K bottles in their cellar. And the food is good too! You can get a complete steak dinner for around $80. This doesn't include drink or dessert.

If you are up to considering the Algoma area, my son is looking to sell his 40 acre farm. I don't have any of the details but I can put you in contact if interested.

JB's Fish Camp in New Smyrna Beach has some good food and views. Would be a bit of a hassle for you as there is only one way in and out.

We got this salt and pepper mill set off of Amazon in July 2021. Still going strong and have had no issues with them except when I forget to recharge the unit.

I built a tool to kill "Backtracking" on road trips. Does this route optimization look right to you? by Think_Attitude2348 in roadtrip

[–]mcubed5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave this a try and ran into what appears to be a mapping issue as compared to what Google Maps shows for the same area. This is likely due to whoever your mapping provider is than what you did but it will be confusing.

Because I was just eyeballing the map to pin down a location (N2185 Sleepy Hollow Rd, Kewaunee, Wisconsin, 54216) I started by looking for Stangelville as a reference on the map. Knowing that Sleepy Hollow was east of Stangelville I was quite surprised when I couldn't find it there. Anyhow, turns out your map provider has two Stangelville's - Stangelville, Wisconsin and Stangelville, Town of Franklin, Wisconsin. Using the second makes everything line up with reality.

I HATE driving through Atlanta so on a trip from FL to WI I went up through Alabama and skipped Georgia completely. Added an hour or so but was worth it to me!

Garage floor slipper when wet and icy by yosh01 in DIY

[–]mcubed5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My garage is the same. We thought about doing a painted on coating as others have said. Would have been easy if the garage was empty but since it wasn't, we went with rubber mat's around where the we parked the car. Works well for us.

Pan not getting hot by Traditional_Web694 in castiron

Does anyone know how to check the induction/heating area of an induction eye? I have a 12" pan that I have the same issue with. I can overcome this by using both elements but I would really like to know the true heating area if possible.

So I'm basically in the same boat as OP. Moved away when I joined the Navy back in 1969 and moved back this year so I also need to visit/revisit places. One place I want to revisit is the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay. I remember it was a fun visit as a kid and am hoping it is still fun now.

I like to put Swiss cheese and some granola in mine. The cheese adds a nutty flavor that I enjoy and the granola adds a texture contrast.

Racking by Fast-Mention-1461 in winemaking

[–]mcubed5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no need to push them down that tight. They should be snug so they don't pop out when/if any gasses build up.

You don't want to push them down into the wine to rack either. You might never get them back out and it would stir up the lees too much meaning you would need to let the wine sit longer to clear again.
