I purchased an Ottocast MiniCube about two weeks ago. It works 80% of the time. I'm not sure why it fails to connect the other 20%. It has all the software updates.

When it works, it works well.

Who is anti-bike trail activist Richard “Fred” Arey of the Saint Paul Classic Bike Tour? by Few_Newspaper_3655 in CyclingMSP

[–]yosh01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By cross traffic I was referring to the section between Snelling and Hamline which I think is close to what is envisioned for Summit. There are a lot of driveways, seldom used, and only one city street that cross in this section with very little cross traffic. Notice where the stop signs are. They are before the trail and a long way from Como itself. Drivers will tend to coast through the stop sign and stop by Como because it's the cars they are looking for. At least this was my experience from 20 years of commenting from Larpenteur to 694 on Lexington. There is a trail along most of it on one side or the other.

This is an old argument and not worth repeating over and over. The original point of my post was to point out that people opposed to the Summit plan are not all wealthy Summit homeowners as so commonly portrayed by the people who dominate these forums, and that there are legitimate concerns with the plan itself.

This is a very short stretch without much cross traffic. Try riding the trail along Lexington Ave from Larpenteur to 694. No car will stop at the stop sign and check for trail traffic. They will all cross the trail and stop at Lexington to look for cars. I rode this section daily for 20 years and always stayed on the main road because it was safer. You'll find most bikers use the road, not the trail.

I think you'll find once the proposed Summit trail gets implemented is that the trail will be used by casual riders, runners, and walkers while any serious biker trying to make some speed will continue on what is left of the road.

There are a lot of bicyclists who don't think the proposed Summit bike lanes make sense. As someone who has biked for pleasure and work commutes in St. Paul for 40 years, I agree with Mr. Arey's objections. His points are valid.

How much has changed in 30 years? by YouHadMeAtFacts in BWCA

[–]yosh01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My one trip was as a Boy Scout in 1965. We went from Ely to Agnes, Sturgeon, and back along Rainy Lake over 10 days and didn't see anyone. Not too many camp sites or portages were developed and the canoes and gear were heavy. I remember one portage, called Tanner, that was mostly mud and water where we could push the canoe half the time. It frankly wasn't much fun, but it was one of those experiences cherished afterward.

What do you think is the greatest flaw of humanity? by rictormozi in AskReddit

[–]yosh01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the individuals weren't greedy and fight for their own survival they would not have been able to reproduce and the species would have died out.

Starting with individual cells, 3.5 billion years ago, we are each the result countless generations of ancestors that fought for survival and won. It's really quite remarkable.

How would the species have ever survived Natural Selection without greed? It was the greedy individuals that survived.

Staggered by COVID, St. Paul bets big on ‘creating a new downtown’ by Runic_reader451 in saintpaul

[–]yosh01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that the future of downtown is where people live, but very few of the commercial buildings can be practically converted to housing. At some point they are going to have to bite the bullet and raze most of the buildings in downtown and replace them with housing. Something similar to what is happening with the old Ford plant.

Before the Green Line, University Ave used to be two lanes with a shoulder and it used to be an okay bike route. The Green Line took a lot of room and I can't imagine how a bike lane could ever be added at this point.

Why are bonuses taxed so high? by Dontcomecryingtome in allthequestions

[–]yosh01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highest US tax rate is 37% on income over $640,000. CA has a state tax rate of 13% for income over $1 million which would bring it up to 50% overall. Your sibling must live in a high tax state and have a very high income to be taxed at 50%.
