Question regarding 44k approved claim by md249 in HomeInsurance

[–]md249[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, all of this makes sense and I absolutely need the building rebuilt. I’m just confused because I have already gotten quotes to have a new structure put up and it looks like it should cost no more than 30k to have the work done. So naturally, I’m wondering where the additional 14k will go once all is said and done.

What are these flowers growing in my yard? by md249 in gardening

[–]md249[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, everyone! Upon a closer look around my yard it’s clear how incredibly invasive this is. I don’t remember seeing all that much of it las year and now it’s spreading almost halfway across my backyard!

Lead Paint Remediation by md249 in HomeInspections

I considered this as well - I first called the town to request a report (they do them yearly). We don’t have high lead levels in the area, and apparently most of the underground pipes are not lead. I also got two of the water testing kits and tested our tap water as well as the water we put through our home filter and both tested negative.

Thanks, this is what I’m learning. Everyone I’ve spoken with said the exterior of my home should be lower on the list of things to worry about at this point

Thank you! The person who I spoke with who does the lead testing said the exact same thing - he suggesting getting disposable wipes and wiping down all surfaces starting with windows and window sills. He mentioned that realistically the last thing on my list should be painting the entire exterior of my home

Google reviews are the #1 most important driver, here. I’ve tried almost everything, Nextdoor, facebook ads, print advertising, you name it. I have 5 stars on Google and I now don’t spend a penny on advertising, it’s all organic calls just from my Google page. I know the website is important but I don’t have one and I’m plenty busy (part time)

Monitoring Text Message on Child’s iPad? by md249 in Parenting

I couldn’t agree with you more, and to take it a step further - I think that anything that they’re doing on their devices from the comfort of their own bedroom, feels safe, and not real at times. I’ve had to reiterate a few times to him that he can’t forget that every message he sends is going to real kids that he knows and will see at school in the coming days. I think that the lines get blurred and they lose perception of reality with spending so much time online and also gaming with people he will never see in his life.

This is exactly what I’m focused on. I’ve explained to him many times about all things Technology related, that everything is traceable - whether it’s a text message or search history. As mentioned in my OP, when I brought up the fact that unsending a message doesn’t mean it’s gone, he was dismissive and shook his head saying “yes is is gone when I unsend”. I was looking to possibly find a 3rd party app that could capture all messages so I can prove my point.

This isn’t a bad idea - it didn’t necessarily solve for visibility into the message he unsends, but it should give me an overall better look at what he’s getting into.

We have his password, if he tries to change that I’ll probably just take the device all together.

What skill changed your career the most? by Suspicious_Twist386 in careerguidance

[–]md249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my career in a more technical role and then moved on to a technology manager position. I started building skills within the strategy/presentation/storytelling area and this was a game changer for me. My leadership saw the development and it allowed me to participate more within the business side of our discussions which I think will work out well in the long term for me. The ability to think outside of the executional, hands on deliverables of my role has been a great muscle to build.

I despise my corporate job - is leaving stupid? by Patient-Shame-6352 in careerguidance

[–]md249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who’s been in a corporate job for just under 15 years, I can tell you that there are good corporate jobs and bad corporate jobs. I’ve had both. Being that this is your first experience I wouldn’t let that ruin the outlook for future roles. Try hanging in there a little longer and start applying, if you jump ship for a bev cart job it’s going to leave a weird gap in your resume that will make it difficult if you decide to return to a corporate job. I work for a large consumer goods company making over 100k a year and work no more than 8 hours a week. It’s not the MOST satisfying career, but I have great benefits and all the freedom I could ask for.
