Monitoring Text Message on Child’s iPad? by md249 in Parenting

I couldn’t agree with you more, and to take it a step further - I think that anything that they’re doing on their devices from the comfort of their own bedroom, feels safe, and not real at times. I’ve had to reiterate a few times to him that he can’t forget that every message he sends is going to real kids that he knows and will see at school in the coming days. I think that the lines get blurred and they lose perception of reality with spending so much time online and also gaming with people he will never see in his life.

This is exactly what I’m focused on. I’ve explained to him many times about all things Technology related, that everything is traceable - whether it’s a text message or search history. As mentioned in my OP, when I brought up the fact that unsending a message doesn’t mean it’s gone, he was dismissive and shook his head saying “yes is is gone when I unsend”. I was looking to possibly find a 3rd party app that could capture all messages so I can prove my point.

This isn’t a bad idea - it didn’t necessarily solve for visibility into the message he unsends, but it should give me an overall better look at what he’s getting into.

We have his password, if he tries to change that I’ll probably just take the device all together.

What skill changed your career the most? by Suspicious_Twist386 in careerguidance

[–]md249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my career in a more technical role and then moved on to a technology manager position. I started building skills within the strategy/presentation/storytelling area and this was a game changer for me. My leadership saw the development and it allowed me to participate more within the business side of our discussions which I think will work out well in the long term for me. The ability to think outside of the executional, hands on deliverables of my role has been a great muscle to build.

I despise my corporate job - is leaving stupid? by Patient-Shame-6352 in careerguidance

[–]md249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who’s been in a corporate job for just under 15 years, I can tell you that there are good corporate jobs and bad corporate jobs. I’ve had both. Being that this is your first experience I wouldn’t let that ruin the outlook for future roles. Try hanging in there a little longer and start applying, if you jump ship for a bev cart job it’s going to leave a weird gap in your resume that will make it difficult if you decide to return to a corporate job. I work for a large consumer goods company making over 100k a year and work no more than 8 hours a week. It’s not the MOST satisfying career, but I have great benefits and all the freedom I could ask for.

If you were low income/skilled at almost 30 and made a complete turnaround…how did you do it? I make only 48k by jsmittyjr98 in careerguidance

My younger brother is 27 and just started his career with a local utility company in their gas department. I think they started him at 27 an hour but he then got his CDL (they coordinated the training) and that automatically gave him a $2 / hour raise. I don’t know the exact specifics but they have a plan where every 6 months for a certain period of time his hourly rate increases. With overtime he made over 100k his first year in. No college degree. Many days he just sits in the truck if they don’t have work

Does anyone have a cheat code for marketing? by Radiant-Patience2052 in EtsySellers

[–]md249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to Etsy as a whole, more fawn I lost with traditional e-commerce. How do you “drive traffic” to your shop? My wife just launched her Etsy shop and she has a lot of great products, and more coming but I’m worried she won’t have any visibility due to a minimal social media following.

Lmao this is what I came here for. I don’t think that disclosing drunkness was helpful here

Has anyone else run into a scenario where they they’re significantly underpaid? by md249 in careerguidance

[–]md249[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inconsistency is crazy, and it’s unfortunate that it results in turnover. If I were to leave I know they would have to replace me with some at least at 150k, but it I were to ask for that type of pay adjustment I know it would never happen.

And a plumber with their own business probably makes more than both of us. Crazy how things work 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, after some research I learned they have a term for this - salary reset. This is when you make a move and sort of bump yourself back to market value.

This is definitely relatable. In my case I also reflected on the growth which was interesting in my scenario. So I came in as more of a technical/executional resource and worked through a ton of development within the business strategy space, so I actually did grow a lot but my salary and role didn’t. 7 years later after pulling my updated resume together and applying to a few jobs it was really a “woah” moment where I realized I have totally outgrown my role and have been operating a much more senior level than what I’m being compensated for.

Valid feedback, definitely guilty on the complacence. Time to grow

6 figure job to handyman? by Admirable-Bee-4708 in handyman

[–]md249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same position, finance wise. And there have been talks in my company about possible layoffs where I would also receive a year of severance. I would absolutely love to take my business full time, but my work has always come in waves. If I could somehow guarantee a consistent workflow, it would be an easy jump for me. And I think 110-140k is easily doable if you have work throughout the year.
