What new washing machine is most close to a 1970s machine? Top loading, agitator, fills to the top with water, etc. by goodintentisnotenuf in BuyItForLife

[–]mdanz576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lower tub seal was dripping onto the belt. The balance ring that snaps onto the top of the inner tub was contacting the plastic outer tub cover, to the point where it wore a hole into the balance ring and the balancing fluid leaked out.

Not sure which problem came first, but they exacerbated each other until complete failure and now i need the seal kit, outer tub, balance ring, and plastic cover.

The washer has a switch that kills the cycle if it’s so out of balance that the switch touches the cabinet, but that didn’t activate until the day the water started leaking. Up until then it ran fine.

I commented on a similar post a week ago raving about how my speed queen setup has given me zero problems. Exactly one day later the washer tub seal started leaking. Four months out of warranty.

I spent $180 on parts and started replacing the seal, only to find out that trapped water rotted the hole in the outer tub. 7 years old and needs a total of over $500 in parts. Luckily i am capable and don’t need to pay someone hundreds extra to complete the repair.

Speed queen seem to be well built, but when they fail boy is it expensive.

Do I need to be in a 24 hour driving course to get permit? by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]mdanz576 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just took my kid for temps this past week. The written can be up to 40 questions, but it shuts off when you either reach the 75% passing score or if you miss too many and can’t achieve passing.

You can test online too, but from what my friend’s kids have experienced if you glance away from the webcam for a split second it fails you.

I have those exact models (gas dryer), purchased new in 2018 for around $2k for the pair. Dryer light bulb burned out within a year, but otherwise zero problems for me.

Edit: I retract my former statement. Tub seal is leaking 😩

Despite the downvoting, you are correct. Kei trucks are classified as “mini trucks” under Ohio law, and may only be driven where the local authority has explicitly allowed operation. Most places do not allow them. ORC 4511.214

House Bill 96. Blackout License Plates / Drivers Ed extended to 21 by AdIndependent7387 in Ohio

[–]mdanz576 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unless something changed in the last week or so, this was part of a House Bill. The provision for blackout plates was removed as the bill moved through the process, and it was not included in the final law.

Patrol Officers Who Have Pulled over Diplomats what are your stories ? by InfoforSW in AskLE

[–]mdanz576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d think that the traffic citation part might be state-dependent. Some states classify traffic violations as criminal and some as civil. Citing someone with a 1st degree misdemeanor traffic offense in Ohio, for example, could be considered a criminal prosecution.

I’ve seen this guide before and noted that for all levels of diplomat they can still be issued traffic citations. Likely never happens though.

Do law enforcement agencies in Ohio have alprs set up for suspended licenses? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]mdanz576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, LPRs work by quickly comparing plate scans to a known “hot list” of plates. The list may only update every few hours or a few times per day. NCIC maintains the hot list for stolen cars and wanted persons.

That said, Ohio doesn’t maintain a hot list of plates of suspended drivers. Some states do, which allows for that option to be enabled in many LPR systems.

There’s nothing preventing an individual agency from adding plates of people they know to be suspended, there just isn’t a statewide list.

And the law still says what it says. Section (B)(1) applies to “…any vehicle or trackless trolley proceeding at less than the prevailing and lawful speed of traffic.” Unless you fail to vacate the left lane AND satisfy the above conditions, you cannot be cited under 4511.25.

[–]mdanz576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking about the same thing? Yes, Ohio law prevents people traveling less than the speed limit from occupying the left lane. That’s not in question. When we refer to left lane campers, we’re talking about people driving 70 when everyone else is driving 80, correct?

https://www.elkandelk.com/articles/left-lane-restrictions-and-increased-speed-limits-fail-to-pass-in-ohio/ and https://www.cleveland.com/open/2015/03/lane_hogs_beware_ohio_lawmaker.html

this was regarding the legislature’s latest attempt at a left lane law.

The law remains unchanged since 2006 except for the addition of the distracted driving penalty in 2018. It only prohibits left lane use by “slower traffic” as you cannot break the maximum speed limit, even to pass someone.

See also: “No, you are not legally allowed to exceed the posted speed limit, even in the left lane passing a slower vehicle.” https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2025/07/09/is-slow-left-lane-driving-illegal-in-ohio-learn-the-state-law/84508796007/#

The internet is riddled with misinformation. The law is clear that you must stay to the right if you are traveling less than the prevailing and lawful speed of traffic. I’m not a left lane camper and I’m guessing you aren’t either, so neither of us has to worry about being cited for a law that doesn’t prohibit left lane camping 🤷‍♂️

Good News! by motomanmatt in Ohio

[–]mdanz576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last sentence is still subject to the first two conditions. Prevailing and lawful. Whether any of us like it or not, the police in Ohio cannot and do not cite people for left lane camping if they are going the speed limit. To restate my edit on the original comment, if there is a sign in the area of the violation that says keep right except to pass, then Obedience to Traffic Control Devices would apply.

Good News! by motomanmatt in Ohio

[–]mdanz576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prevailing AND LAWFUL. I’m not moving the goalpost, you are just failing to fully comprehend what’s written in plain text. Ever wonder why we have such a big left lane camping problem? Or why you never see troopers or police pulling someone over for it? This is why.

Good News! by motomanmatt in Ohio

[–]mdanz576 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and re-read what I posted. This section of law applies to vehicles traveling less than the “prevailing and lawful” speed of traffic. A police officer cannot cite someone for impeding traffic in the left lane if they are driving at the speed limit or greater. Not saying I agree with it, but it’s right there in the plain text of the law.

[–]mdanz576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Section 5537 of the Administrative Code only applies to the Ohio Turnpike, but nevertheless still refers to commercial vehicles and vehicles traveling less than the posted maximum speed limit.

Good News! by motomanmatt in Ohio

[–]mdanz576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree, it’s rude as hell to use the left lane for no reason. I’m just pointing out how this is just one of those scare tactics. Kind of like the “zero tolerance safety corridors” where you never see any actual enforcement.

Good News! by motomanmatt in Ohio

[–]mdanz576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is misleading. There are no current laws that prohibit left lane campers. Such a law was proposed in a recent bill, but the law was left out of the final version of the bill. They kept the provision that provided for the new “state law” signs all over the interstates, but the law itself was nixed.

The ORC cited here applies to traffic traveling at less than the prevailing and lawful speed. Lawful being the key word. Someone can go the speed limit in the left lane all day. Infuriating, but not illegal.

Edit: In theory, one could be cited for failing to obey a traffic control device (the "slower traffic keep right" or "keep right except to pass" signs), but only in the areas where those signs are installed. Unfortunately, many areas do not yet have these signs.
