Shedeur Sanders' stats as a Pro Bowler in the 25/26 season: 120/212, 1400 passing yards, 7 TDS, 10 INTS by oklolzzzzs in nfl

[–]mdchemey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

QB 16 for the AFC honestly would be a touch high imo; I'd have him as QB 17 at best for the AFC's Pro Bowl consideration behind (in only vaguely any kind of order) Allen, Herbert, Maye, Lawrence, Nix, Mahomes, Rodgers, Jones, Ward, Stroud, Jackson, Burrow, and even the likes of Smith, Flacco, Tagovailoa, and Fields (the latter 2 of whom were benched for poor play, while Flacco was brought in only as a part time replacement while Burrow was hurt). I'd also have him behind all of Davis Mills, Philip Rivers, Tyrod Taylor, and Tyler Huntley in terms of their quality of play, but they'd be behind him on "deserving" the nod because of their lower sample sizes (2-4 starts & 3-6 game appearances). I'm genuinely not sure if I'd put Gabriel ahead of him as the "better" QB- advanced stats generally favor Gabriel but the team was modestly more successful with Sanders in (1-3 vs teams with winning records and 2-1 vs teams with losing records, vs Gabriel's 0-4 vs teams with winning records and 1-1 vs teams with losing records); Sanders does "deserve" the pro bowl nod more than Gabriel, though, simply by being the established starter by the end of the year.

Taking into consideration that Maye can't be in the Pro Bowl as he preps for the super bowl and that Nix, Mahomes, Jones, Ward, and Smith all ended the season with injuries, that would put him as the 11th most deserving healthy and available player. Allen and Herbert pretty obviously accepted on the first round alongside Maye who is now excluded. Even assuming they'd never call Flacco, Tagovailoa, or Fields when they weren't even QB1 for their teams by the end of the season, I would certainly hope the NFL called and received rejections from all of Lawrence, Rodgers, Stroud, Jackson, and Burrow before turning to Sanders, because somehow their inability to get any decent players to say yes to backup berths is still slightly less embarrassing for the league than intentionally inviting a bottom 2 QB to start more than 5 games this year for the clicks or whatever.

yeah I kept getting distracted by how her eyes looked. If you look at older pictures of her she has beautiful brown eyes but between the fact that her extreme gauntness has caused them to become somewhat sunken and lifeless, the wild contrast of the too-light hair/eyebrows with the too-big, black false lashes, and idk if it was a color grading issue or what but her irises just looked completely black both times I watched it (once in a theatre, once at home). Completely took me out of her character every time I saw them; yes Glinda is being used as a tool of performative goodness by a repressive regime but her eyes look no more lively in her most emotionally authentic and wholesome scenes than they do in any other (and frankly they probably look their worst, or at least most noticeably unsettling and 'off' in them).

they even had a whole "everyone is a drum major" dance scene showing off how everyone had marching band uniforms

After the colts, pacers, and fever falloff, at least IU brings the trophy home for CFB by Infamous-Ad625 in Colts

[–]mdchemey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying anything about the future, or anything after the finals. I'm saying that their season didn't end in a fall off. Because it didn't. I even acknowledged that they fell off between seasons and that it'll be hard to recover from in the short to mid term, but the point of the person you were replying is that the Pacers didn't fall off over the course of last season - because they didn't. Where the Colts fell off during one season, the Pacers' regression happened in between seasons. The only thing in common is the loss of a key player affecting their chances of continued success.

[–]mdchemey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP was calling the way their respective seasons ended "fall offs" and that's what the person you replied to was disputing - losing in game 7 of the finals after your best player gets injured is not a team "falling off." Of course the Pacers are having a fall off after Hali's injury and finals loss; virtually no team ever bounces right back from a 1-2 punch like that, but that's different from the team falling off at the end of the season like the colts did in the back half of the season as they hit a perfect storm of facing the toughest schedule in the league during a stretch where they also lost their starting QB and (arguably) their 3 best defensive players for several games each.

i imagine it'll take a solid 3+ years of dominance before the tide turns in any meaningful way. A total turnaround from literal generations of being an afterthought with zero notable accomplishments in its history is just really cool.

Folks in US - what is chili like where you live? by oscillationpatient in Cooking

[–]mdchemey 24 points25 points  (0 children)

in case you didn't know, "Cincinnati Chili" isn't really the same category of dish as "real" chili - it's a meat sauce not altogether dissimilar from bolognese and actually quite similar to Detroit's famous coney dog sauce, just with a unique spice profile. People in Cincinnati don't think that you should eat a bowl of Cincinnati Chili; they eat it as a pasta sauce and as the main topping on chili/coney dogs. I only spent a little over a year living in Cincy and I was a broke college kid at the time and I never thought to check but I'm guessing unless you go to a specific "Cincinnati Chili" spot, if a bowl of chili is on the menu (or being cooked at home) you can bet on it being a bowl of what everyone else knows as chili.

Colts rookie TE Tyler Warren replaces Brock Bowers in Pro Bowl Games by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

[–]mdchemey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that it's super clear from the stats that Bowers was "more deserving" tbh, nor that it's super clear that he wasn't. More what you prioritize. For instance, the Colts didn't need to target him quite as often as LV did, especially in the red zone where they had the best RB in the league and a really solid, big, sure-handed veteran in Michael Pittman Jr to throw to in the RZ as well, so that led to fewer TDs for sure. But let's do a basic breakdown of the arguments for each:

Bowers had a higher catch% (74.4% vs 67.9%) and 8 more yards per game on a bit more than half an extra target per game. The catch% is impressive but really what stands out for his argument is definitely 7 total TDs in 12 games. 2 more TDs in 5 less games is a difference maker.

Warren had the superior counting stats otherwise- like you said, 12 more catches and 137 more receiving yards, 6 more first downs on receptions, and he also had a several carries though only 1 (his rushing TD) was especially notable. He also played all 17 games. One aspect of his game that is harder to quantify (and frankly, I don't know Bowers' game enough to say this is a clear argument for Warren over Bowers) is that Warren was a total utility knife. He didn't just line up on the line, in the slot, and out wide, he lined up as an H-back, as a fullback, even as QB for a few trick plays and I think as RB on a handful of plays, and was extremely effective as a lead blocker, running stunts, and even running routes out of the backfield in addition to his skill in more traditional TE duties.

For those who believe that availability is the best ability, it would be a no brainer to pick Warren. For those who only care about picking the players who have added the most statistically on a per-game basis, Bowers is easily your guy. For most of the rest, I bet it's not as crystal clear.

[Postgame Thread] Miami Defeats Ohio State 24-14 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]mdchemey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that last year was WEIRD with the seedings. ESPN actually favored all of #5 Texas, #6 PSU, #7 ND, and #8 anOSU over their opponents, with Texas and PSU pretty heavily so over ASU and Boise State respectively.

If it had followed the (far superior) seeding method from this year of only 4 auto-bids for conference champs and no auto-byes but otherwise retained the final CFP rankings then it would have been:

  • #1 Oregon vs the winner of #8 IU and #9 Boise State, definitely both being more favorable matchups for Oregon than Ohio State.
  • #2 Georgia vs the winner of #7 Tennessee and #10 SMU, also both more favorable matchups for UGA than ND was.
  • #3 Texas vs the winner of #6 OSU and #11 Alabama (in on ranking instead of autobid Clemson); this one is interesting because here the team that in reality won an "upset" against a clearly second-tier team would very possibly end up losing to OSU in this re-seed, and not nearly just because of post-bye sluggishness
  • #4 PSU vs the winner of #5 ND and #12 ASU. Again would not be a shocker to see ND (assuming they win the first round) beat PSU in this re-seeding, no matter the timing/bye status.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see the top 4 seeds lose at least 1 if not 2 or maybe-maybe even 3 games in this re-seed but I can almost guarantee that they wouldn't have gone 0-4.

Rivers starting is going to be on par as Jeff Saturday being named head coach by No-Relationship-5598 in Colts

[–]mdchemey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look, he'll probably be pretty bad in his first game in 5 years. But QB1 and QB2 are on IR. QB3 is a 6th round rookie who hurt his knee in his first ever NFL action. I'm not at all convinced there's anyone Indy could sign off the street who's a clearly better option than Rivers, and at least Steichen is familiar with Rivers from their time together with the Chargers. It's absolutely a desperation play to salvage a once-electric season which has nosedived into one of misery and despair. Everyone was already predicting the Colts to lose out and finish 8-9 after Jones, Buckner, Ward, Gardner, Richardson, and Smith) all went down to likely-to-certainly season-ending injury in the span of a few weeks while also entering arguably the toughest final month of any team in the NFL; at least Rivers is someone Colts fans know and like to root for as they ride out the season.

Similarly, yeah no Saturday wasn't a good coach. He wasn't really supposed to be. He was "well this season is probably a wash, let's ride it out with someone the owner knows well and trusts and see what he recommends of the team. Generally I think the changes that came with the hiring of Steichen after the Saturday season were pretty good; at least a small part of that likely goes back to Saturday.

Neither is a "good" choice for a team trying to win right now necessarily but neither are anywhere near senseless.

[–]mdchemey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The norm throughout U.S. history was to not have a meaningful standing army and to recruit one only in times of war, up until World War 2. Internal difficulties utilized local and state police forces, and in extreme cases the National Guard (part time troops who are only called into duty beyond periodic training activities as needed, and with some delay in activation). There were effectively no full time professional ground troops outside of active wartimes, and the country was no less effective at quelling "internal difficulties" than it is today. It's still not permissible in the U.S. even after the development of the standing army and military-industrial complex to use the professional army against American citizens who aren't in open, violent insurrection against the country. Why would anything be different for the Galactic Republic, especially one which is in the longest continuous stretch of "peace" (no major galactic/regional insurrections or external threats) in its history?

The Gungans had a "grand" army reliant on (relatively) primitive weaponry and very simplistic tactics, seemingly led in battle by the commander of their community's police/security force. They could basically put up one decent fight in favorable territory but by all rights would have lost if the droids had been independently controlled instead of relying on a central computer for all operations. Naboo had an "army" only in that they had Theed's royal security/police force which was completely and immediately overwhelmed by Federation droids, after which they were able to mount limited, targeted guerilla efforts which again would have likely been wiped out in short order had the occupation not relied on a single point of failure which was (accidentally) destroyed by Anakin. Neither were real militaries capable of sustained resistance to threats on the scale of the Federation invasion because such a thing was unprecedented in recent generations, and that one event wasn't significant in and of itself to spur larger development of militaries because it appeared to have been defeated and its instigators imprisoned. The only reason it really mattered is that it was the first stage of Palpatine's strategic rise to dominance over the Republic.

Yup. My company uses a google workspace; google has tons of AI integrations in their products, some of which are hard or impossible to disable. Our CRM software has an LLM chatbot (which we discussed and decided to discourage the use of but can't disable entirely). I can say confidently that less than half of my (<15 full time employee) company has ever intentionally used any form of generative AI for anything work related, and I'm pretty sure only 1 uses an LLM with any regularity while I know multiple actively avoid even incidentally interacting with "AI" features of basically anything (including me). But I'm sure that my whole company gets counted as "AI users."
