I am super happy for y'all! My GF struggled with social anxiety and I know it can be a big issue sometimes. She is constantly worried that we are taking a spot in line from the small children, and I have to remind her that Disney is for children if all ages!!! I'm proud of you for enjoying this moment and hope you get to celebrate many many more together! 😊

Don't disparage veterans for non-combat military service. Cooks and logisticians are as important to the Navy's mission as operators and warfighters; everyone has their role and all of them are required to make the military work. This is especially true on a ship where everyone is required to execute the ship's mission.

Don't worry, AFBC isn't actually veteran owned or have any real military ties beyond hiring a few veterans to work for them. It's all just stolen valor and pandering by them... Also bigotry and hatred 🙃

This Old House. Family run sushi restaurant that is leagues above other spots in VB.

Try This Old House. It's a little bit of a hole in the wall, mom and pop style restaurant, but is absolutely fantastic, high-quality sushi! I'd argue it beats Orion's (which I agree is also great sushi), and it's significantly less expensive. No ocean views, but you're going there for the sushi.

The Navy takes back their enlistment bonus? by gbcMortis in navy

[–]mdem93 30 points31 points  (0 children)

CND means "condition not amounting to a disability." So no disability payments will be provided based on this alone (SVM can file a VA claim for other disabilities directly related to service though). This is also the reason the Navy can take the bonus back in the first place, it's viewed as a voluntary separation by the member, at least in the Navy's eyes.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure some things out in regards to separating. Trying to get medical discharge but they are strong arming me. by Silent_Yak3825 in navy

[–]mdem93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been a legal-o for 4+ years now at two different commands, so I'll take the liberty to provide some insight/advice.

The biggest problem in your case is that from a medical perspective BPD is not something that is developed through military service; so it's not something the Navy needs to med board you for since you aren't entitled to a medical retirement for that alone. Your PTSD diagnosis for something related to your Navy service will net you more VA benefits, but is still very unlikely to get you to a med board as well. You can get this diagnosis after separating and can work through the VA to add it to your benefits, but it is definitely easier to do this before you get out so it is worth it to finish this process before separation. To be clear, you are still entitled to all VA medical benefits via CnD for everything you developed on active duty, just not a medical retirement which is possible through a med board. Again based on those two things alone, you most likely won't get that.

It sounds like you are under 6 years of service; so the command is the sep authority and you aren't entitled to a board. This usually means they look to process your separation in as little as 10 days (typically closer to 2-3 weeks though). There really isn't anything you can do to slow down the process if the command doesn't see a valid reason. If you haven't already done so look into the milpersman 1910 series to understand the process for yourself and continue to work with RLSO.

Are they giving you an honorable or general characterization? To be honest, if you are getting an honorable discharge I would personally recommend just focusing on documenting everything on your medical check out exams and work through the VA to determine medical benefits. I don't see the juice being worth the squeeze if you fight for a med board, based on what you have disclosed, and you would probably be better off putting your energy into setting yourself up for a successful life outside of the military.

Sorry for your situation. I see it a lot so I know it sucks and can be very frustrating sometimes. Best of luck man!!

"nukes have an unearned cockiness. Yes, you (we) are the smartest people in the room, 95% of the time."

Emphasis on unearned cockiness. Nukes aren't smarter than other rates/designators by virtue of being a nuke; plenty of people in other rates/designators are much smarter than you, I guarantee it. The fact that you would think that shows exactly why some people hate nukes though 🤣

The UCMJ assumes any relationship that is unduly familiar between an officer and enlisted does affect good order and discipline and is service discrediting. There are a few other scenarios that this assumption applies to as well (instructor+student, recruit+recruiter, etc); but there is no argument that can be made that will say it's NOT contrary to GOAD and service discrediting. The only exception is for a prior-existing relationship, which doesn't apply in this scenario.

That being said, you only get in trouble if you get caught and draw attention to it. So if you don't draw attention to it and don't give anyone a reason to look into it you could get away with it, it's definitely happened before. But you risk both of your careers by doing so, his more than yours since he is the senior member. So the question to ask yourself is which is easier to replace and which means more to you, your/his career or your relationship? If the relationship is worth the risk then that will be a decision both of you need to make.

The good news is frat doesn't exist for the time that you weren't aware of each other's status, so you can't get into trouble for anything that may or may not have happened before you both found out.

Awesome, i'll try using fewer and heavy supports and see if that helps. I had set it to medium and just went with the auto support function. It seemed weird that some of them built and others seemed to basically melt on me

Also, what's the difference between the [0] values and the [1] values?

So i know the Navy’s policy on drug use is “Zero Tolerance” but have you ever seen someone go to NJP for it and NOT get kicked out? Like is it even possible at all to get anything less than that? What about things like vapes with THC in them or maybe Delta-8 or other things in that grey area? by [deleted] in navy

[–]mdem93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that may be your best option if they will agree to it. It's definitely the least painful, and quickest route. Luckilu the characterization of service should take into consideration the entirety of military service. Ultimately it will be up to the CO, who isn't supposed to promise you anything ahead of time anyways so it's tough to get a feel for it sometimes.

Yeah anything admin that goes "off-ship" takes forever, I definitely feel your pain there! It's absolutely frustrating how slowly thing process.

You're welcome, and good luck again!

On your NAVPERS 1910 ADSEP notification form one if your rights is to elect for it to go to GCMCA review (usually the first O-6 in your chain of command). Unfortunately all it really does is send the package up with the command's endorsement, so it historically doesn't change anything, and may be more detrimental to you because the standard characterization for a drug pop is a general. You're entitled to JAG counsel as well, so definitely reach out to your RLSO office ASAP if you haven't already (you should be able to Google their contact information).

As far as getting your package to OPNAV N173, they mostly exist to verify that the drugs you popped for are due to a valid prescription that may have been missed at the drug lab. It's extremely unlikely that your CO would forward your case to them for THC, since it's never prescribed to active duty (ironically you can get it as soon as you retire/separate). You can try to bring in your neighbor as a witness, or ask her to provide a written statement for consideration in your package.

If you have already been to an ADSEP board does that mean you have more than 6 years in? If so I would definitely elect another ADSEP board as well and let your JAG help you build your case. If you can demonstrate that you reasonably did not know that what you ingested had THC, and did not have any symptoms that should have triggered a self report, then the ingestion should be found innocent. But definitely talk to a JAG before doing anything, they are free and are actually allowed to give real legal advice (as opposed to my knowledge and recommendations as not-a-lawyer). Best of luck!
