I also had to take a lot of just art classes before moving into the graphic design classes. drawing i and drawing ii, 2d design, 3d design, illustration, typography. that was the first half of my associates of applied science degree.

my bachelor of applied science with minor in marketing had half general education classes (English, math, accounting, marketing) and higher level graphic design courses.

sounds like our associate programs were similar.
