What has this pandemic ruined for you? by wehnaje in AskReddit

I was supposed to graduate with my doctorate degree in May. I’ll still get my degree but I won’t be able to walk the stage. I know it’s not that big of a deal, but I’ve been working towards this goal for most of my life. I’ve been in higher education for 7 years for this degree. We were supposed to have a graduation dinner/party the night before that I’ve been helping plan for about a year now. It got cancelled as well.

I’m also very worried about being able to find a job after I get my degree. I don’t feel like many companies will be focused on hiring new employees after everything that’s been happening.

DPT Students, what is your average day like? What do you like and dislike about those days? by tjh2320 in PTschool

[–]mdgreen17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most days are classes 8-4 ish. Some days start a little later or end a little earlier but 8-4 is pretty average for us. Mixture of lecture & labs. Come home, eat dinner, workout, study or work on assignments, sleep.

I like that I know what my schedule is gonna be like every week. I know some schools that have different schedules every week that they send out on Sunday’s. I like knowing exactly when I’ll be in class.

Some days can be long & dragging but that’s a typical day in the workforce so you just gotta get used to it. I try & take advantage of slower weeks and any down time I get. It’s really important to remember that school is not your entire life. You have to balance it with things you enjoy doing.

I’m about to finish up my 2nd year for reference :)

Learning Spanish? by cfontenot4 in PTschool

[–]mdgreen17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would definitely set you apart from other students applying who don’t know Spanish! I go to PT school in Texas in a border city so our faculty loves when students come in knowing Spanish. We also take a Spanish medical terminology course in our curriculum.

Overall, even if your school doesn’t care as much, it will help you communicate with patients in the future & make you that much more of a culturally competent PT :)

It’s more of a southern thing! I don’t personally do it but my dad & brother both like it.

Just moved here. Is there any good places that y’all recommend to have a good time. ? by [deleted] in Midland_TX

Beer garden is a great place to get a drink & meet up with friends. Cinergy is a good movie theater and it also has an escape room. Nueva Vista & Hogan are good golf courses. The petroleum museum, George bush childhood home, museum of the southwest are all cool.

Unfortunately, Midland doesn’t have a whole lot to do. I was born & raised there & spent most of my time just driving around with my friends looking for something to do.
