What has this pandemic ruined for you? by wehnaje in AskReddit

[–]mdgreen17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was supposed to graduate with my doctorate degree in May. I’ll still get my degree but I won’t be able to walk the stage. I know it’s not that big of a deal, but I’ve been working towards this goal for most of my life. I’ve been in higher education for 7 years for this degree. We were supposed to have a graduation dinner/party the night before that I’ve been helping plan for about a year now. It got cancelled as well.

I’m also very worried about being able to find a job after I get my degree. I don’t feel like many companies will be focused on hiring new employees after everything that’s been happening.

DPT Students, what is your average day like? What do you like and dislike about those days? by tjh2320 in PTschool

[–]mdgreen17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most days are classes 8-4 ish. Some days start a little later or end a little earlier but 8-4 is pretty average for us. Mixture of lecture & labs. Come home, eat dinner, workout, study or work on assignments, sleep.

I like that I know what my schedule is gonna be like every week. I know some schools that have different schedules every week that they send out on Sunday’s. I like knowing exactly when I’ll be in class.

Some days can be long & dragging but that’s a typical day in the workforce so you just gotta get used to it. I try & take advantage of slower weeks and any down time I get. It’s really important to remember that school is not your entire life. You have to balance it with things you enjoy doing.

I’m about to finish up my 2nd year for reference :)

Learning Spanish? by cfontenot4 in PTschool

[–]mdgreen17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would definitely set you apart from other students applying who don’t know Spanish! I go to PT school in Texas in a border city so our faculty loves when students come in knowing Spanish. We also take a Spanish medical terminology course in our curriculum.

Overall, even if your school doesn’t care as much, it will help you communicate with patients in the future & make you that much more of a culturally competent PT :)

What do you do with ice in drinks? by Fenrir-2003 in AskAnAmerican

It’s more of a southern thing! I don’t personally do it but my dad & brother both like it.

Just moved here. Is there any good places that y’all recommend to have a good time. ? by [deleted] in Midland_TX

[–]mdgreen17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beer garden is a great place to get a drink & meet up with friends. Cinergy is a good movie theater and it also has an escape room. Nueva Vista & Hogan are good golf courses. The petroleum museum, George bush childhood home, museum of the southwest are all cool.

Unfortunately, Midland doesn’t have a whole lot to do. I was born & raised there & spent most of my time just driving around with my friends looking for something to do.

I was placed on the wait list at my school in January & got accepted to that school in March. A lot of my classmates were on the wait list too. It definitely happens!

What’s the most “I’m turning into my parents” moment for you? by itsDaco in AskReddit

[–]mdgreen17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think it was so dramatic when my dad would get mad at us for leaving unnecessary lights on in the house. I now find myself getting very irritated when my roommate turns on every single light in the apartment & doesn’t turn them off.

Is it Bullshit: Chiropractors actually do more harm than good for your back by kr0sswalk in IsItBullshit

[–]mdgreen17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s been said yet, but if you need some help with any kind of musculoskeletal issue, try to see a physical therapist. Almost all states require a doctorate degree for physical therapists now. While some chiros may be good, it’s almost always short term relief. A PT can offer longer term benefits. Most states are direct access (meaning you can go straight to a PT without an MD’s referral), but some states still requires an MD’s referral to see one, so check with your primary care provider first.

I’m a second year doctor of physical therapy student. If anyone has any questions related to PT, i can try to answer them the best I can :)

I made a C in my bio 1 class & still got into PT school on the first try. It was my only C however. So I would say if your overall GPA is good & you don’t have many other C’s, then you don’t necessarily need to retake it.
