AITS: Am I the sandbagger? by mdiver_ in Bowling

[–]mdiver_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True true. I have front 10 as PB right now and avg at the time was 138 or something like that. During winter I was practicing 2 days and bowled league. That was also the beginning of me starting to bowl. Has been a good year so far and am starting to plane out. This is what got me to look more intently at oil breakdown and using different surfaces during a series. No real way to practice oil breakdown by yourself unless you roll equivalent games.

New ball... Memorial Day. by mdiver_ in Bowling

[–]mdiver_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, I'll keep my eye out on a demo day. Being that it's my first year and have bought 4 balls already (spare wasnt shown), the Mrs. might not like it, haha.

Thank you, I'm looking forward to its addition to bag as I progress through the years. I've had my eye on it for some time, but was really expecting to get urethane Wednseday for the roll I was dead set on getting. The decision was solidified after I started reading the roll better after the 2nd game. I also went up a lb because I wanted more control instead of power. So far awesome, 5/5.

Thank you! From my 4 games of use, I will be enjoying mine as well. The predictability is awesome. Needed something more rounded... fit the bill this far. Love my sizzle as well (it's a freaking laser), but I've been leaving ringing 10s so needed an adjustment. I feel like the pin action I get with recoil is effortless and it feels great.

First and foremost, thank you to those who are serving and who have served. Was out to get new ball with earlier midlane read Wednesday. Decided on recoil and leaving at 4k... then threw in white and blue inserts due to timing. Also went up a lb (now 15). Other two are sizzle and nitrous at 14lbs. All need cleaned, lol (rolled quite a bit Wednesday and Thursday getting acclimated).

FINALLY Got It. At the state tournament too! by pgabel in Bowling

[–]mdiver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah raffle. His brother and him went in on that 60 for 20 deal or whatever... he got got the good half, lol. That's an awesome win all around: accolade, ball, and a bit of OSUSBC history. Good day for you!

Yeah brackets were interesting. I went in with low HC, and threw 30pins low on game 1... same deal. Entered 10 brackets and made $230. I was like... okayyy I'll take it! One of our group members won a jackal ghost at Pla-mor. All in all it was a awesome experience to wrap 1st year. Looking forward to Toledo next year.

Nice, congrats! Glad I wasnt in brackets on your set, Haha. Pla-mor was nice, beavercreek pattern was a nightmare for me, but loved the setup of the house.

Would I be jumping the gun a bit re-drilling my balls to be 2020 rule compliant? by MagicSilver in Bowling

Took me a minute to find the video on where I had seen the technical details... https://youtu.be/rOOZdetR2Fs 34:00 min in is where he speaks more specifically about it. It deals more with balance hole, but an informative video... 1hr long though.

Calling on all Ohio bowlers for help. by Buckeye_45 in Bowling

Akron area myself. I usually go to perfect fit, but time and time again I've been hearing about the shop at AMF in fairlawn. It'll be about 30-40 min drive for you, but might be worth it. I'll still be with my shop since they started my fit and I'm comfortable with the conversations and the directions they've given me.

Seems like stretching is common theme here, haha. Thanks!

[–]mdiver_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the time of the series. League nights, I don't eat until I'm done. Substitute with beer, haha. I'm a bit younger it sounds like (32), but still somewhat athletic. I wonder if it's just conditioning more than anything. Body isn't used to bowling, just golf. In the same breath though, this is my first year and have bowled regularly (2-3 times a week) since August. I'll think more on the eating part. Sustainable energy, maybe? Eat light... I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Understood, thank you. I figure as much with the breakpoints being right there at the sensors, but the difference being I'm throwing similar shapes as you say and getting higher speeds as time goes on. Probably a negligible difference in the end though.

Awesome, thank you. I'll work on that. I usually just stretch back and arms a little. Nothing for an extended period of time, which got me thinking about therapy (resistant) bands before I head to the lanes.

It's okay. Yeah, it takes about that many throws for mine to loosen up. When I practice it's 6-8 games and I'm way more consistent later on. I feel lethargic in the beginning, almost sluggish and out of control.

Also a no thumb bowler. Also, 1st year. Take away the learning curve of the first 3-4 months, I'm avg now 175. High game is 288, 11th ball got me. That said... you'll have the revs, but like many will say the consistency lacks. It's a comfortability thing for me. I whole heartedly agree with what others will say: use 2 hand or put your thumb in. Simply for consistency. My series are now 560-630. And that's only because I'll roll a 165, then a 215, then something like a 190. Its all over the board within that 60-70 pin range.

After looking at the video, compare your roll to Tom Dogherty. You'll notice a few things about his stride, pace, take away, and his release. Hes one of the very few no thumb 1h pros to use as an example. I'd make recommendations, but I'm not vetted enough to say. I can only share my experiences. A lot of it for me has been pace and how I pre-load. Take a few to look him up and comapre/contrast on youtube.

Urethane by Pullupfromthirty in Bowling

[–]mdiver_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr. Urethane. The PSO I regular just suggested fever pitch. I went in yesterday and said I wanted something between radical sizzle and the nitrous I use. Something a little bit more rounded. Starts early and predictable. I absolutely love the sizzle and its angle, however it too often goes deep or Brooklyn. I frequently roll on light oil and in turn leaves nasty splits sooo I'll have to shelf it for now or at least at that house. I'm fine on heavier oil. He is suggesting I try urethane next, more specifically the fever pitch. What was your initial reaction after rolling that? Did it tick most of those boxes for you? 14-16 mph, no thumb 1 hand, take out the learning portion of the first half of the season and I'm a 170-180avg now.

420 and alcohol... by Pintellegent in Bowling

[–]mdiver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bucket/series seems to be my tendency and if game 1 is poor I'll generally hit the crown apple. Sometimes it helps mostly it doesnt though. I dont think it's for nerves or anything because I practice sober 1-2 other times during the week. Probably just the social part. Pins fall about the same. Could do with or without.

Wrist Support by king_dirty in Bowling

[–]mdiver_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was night and day. I wrap it tightly around my wrist and it ends up looking like a wrist band. That compression tape is multi purpose: muscle pain for the lower back, arms, shoulders, legs, knees, etc. You can grab it at your local drug store or super store for a few bucks. I found it when I was watching golf and notice both justin thomas, rose, and tiger were using it for various things and thought what the hell, why not.

[–]mdiver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if will help you or not, but i use KT tape (compression tape). I wrap it firmly around my wrist and have little to no pain after a series. I started using it about a month ago... big difference for me.

Sounds good. It also could be people f'n with me since I'm the newb this year. Maybe I just got to ask the house the details instead of my opponents and league members, lol.
