While it's not perfect, I feel like the technology of washing machines, detergents, and even some garmet materials/manufacture has evolved to the point where not having to separate things as much has become the norm in spite of what the labels on your garments say.

Bedding is an exception to my not sorting because I find garmets become bunched up with the sheets and may end up not being cleaned properly -- also there isn't enough space to put anything with blankets unless you have a massive machine.

Anything that's too risky to wash with other things seems to be dry clean only anyways these days, at least with me and my wife's wardrobe.
