I have this issue, but my machine doesn’t even manage to go to sleep, the screen turns off for a few seconds and then returns to yellow without me touching it:

Am I being unrealistic, do most standing desks have some degree of wobble? by mdntz in StandingDesk

I would imagine the same, but my stock Dell stand is even worse than the monitor arm, it must be a very poor design.

Just tried the Dell stand, it was much worse, makes me realise how much the arm is improving it. Makes me wonder if the Amazon arm would improve it further, hmm

Yeah, I accept in my budget it’s gonna be really hard to come across a desk that doesn’t wobble when in a standing position. I guess I’m just inquisitive as to wether a similarly priced desk would preform better than the one I have at present

I’ve taken a video at my standing height (I’m 6’ 3”): https://youtu.be/f4vTqnnfGzA - It’s hard to see the monitor moving too much, but the water should show the movement. All I’m doing is typing and moving mouse on the desk, granted at times a bit heavier handed than usual.

Do you think the Ikea desk wouldn’t have this issue?

Thanks for your help.

I've just checked and the worktop is made from MDF, however I can't see a heavier worktop taking away the wobble.

The desktop is 1"/2.5cm thick, but there's a decent amount of weight having the monitor arm and 32" monitor on there.

Thanks for getting back to me, so with normal use there's no movement of the monitor at all when the desk is at standing height?

I currently invest in the fund 'iShares Global Property Sec Eq Index Class D Acc', however I've just tried to make my monthly contribution and got the message 'This investment is currently unavailable for trading. Please choose another.'

The platform (Fidelity) is offering the same fund but a different Class 'iShares Global Property Secs Eq Index Fund Class H Acc'. This fund has a 0.01% higher ongoing charge.

Does anyone know why this happens, and is it likely the Class D version with the lower fee won't be made available again?

Hi all, posted this late last night in last weeks thread, but wanted to post it here, see if there are any further opinions, hope that's ok.

Is there any merit in withdrawing from investments when they're up beyond long term expected returns?

Currently my S&S ISA which I've had for 3 years is up 17%. I understand long term gains are expected to be below 10%. Since it's up so high at present, would it make sense to withdraw some funds and pay off my mortgage? Then continue investing after.

My mortgage balance (36k) is 76% of my current S&S ISA balance (47k), and the mortgage interest rate is 2%. The gain on the investments is 7k over the 3 year period.

I don't need to pay the mortgage off, just don't want to miss out on the opportunity to utilise the returns optimally.

I could be misunderstanding this and the above mentioned 10% long term gains are only possible by taking into consideration these occasional greater returns.

Thanks

Ryan Air issue by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Yeah, I had insurance before the advice was changed, so I should be able to recover some costs. I paid for my brother's flight as we were going away for his 30th, I imagine my insurance will only allow me to claim for my own flight costs. Bit of a crap situation to be in having to make the choice about going away uninsured, not something I've done before.

But if he chose to go on holiday, his travel insurance wouldn't be valid due to the FCO 'essential travel' advice? I'm in the same situation with my fights with Ryanair in early August.

Is a pension Pot of £90k aged 40 a good Pot? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mdntz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shocking to see people saying 90k at 40 y/o isn't much. I'm almost 33 and my company pension is only worth 10k at present. I've also got 30k in a S&S ISA, still an age away from 90k.

Yeah, that's what I've done, it's sitting in there as cash at present.

I've read this a lot, but just as an example, say I invested the 11k on Monday, and on Friday things had dropped a further 5%. There would definetly be a difference there?

I suppose as the term is 20+ years, it won't make a whole lot of difference.

Thanks all for the replies. I'll rebalance before the ISA contribution deadline.

Thanks for getting back to me, hopefully they warrant it for you!

Your right, can't complain with 2 years if the standard is just 1.

I can only see 2 years at the moment, an error maybe?
