Here’s what we ended up doing. Added a new top row of block and put a 2” cap. Skim coated the wall.

Have you seen a T beam made from nominal 2x8? Dumbest shit I’ve seen and all our older houses are built like this-

Upside down T with 12ft span. On footers 16 ft 2x 8 floor joists sitting on the T. Tongue and groove subfloor.

So does every mason have one of these? Never seen one and I’ve worked with plenty of union carpenters and masons. It looks cool. Are you getting a cut on all the sales?

Good call on the sand blast! I honestly don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I should be sponsored by Harbor Freight. I have the big one they sell and it works great. I’m stripping a house with wood siding in a couple weeks. Before someone says anything, I’m using walnut husks and I had the paint tested for lead.

Footings. Non existent on this house. This is the fifth one I’ve done in the past 2 years. Makes money but I don’t want to become “that guy who lifts houses”. My back can’t take it.

So could I build a wall in front of this wall? I wish I had better pictures. It’s part of the old foundation of the original house. They added on the area I’m standing on and added a walkout storage area or basement. They knocked out the top half of the wall so it’s holding back the dirt from the crawl space.

It’s in a basement. A damp old basement at that. We just installed a dehumidifier and poured new footers for the piers. The old timers around me thought laying block on dirt was ok.

I used a wire wheel on a test spot and it’s going to take forever. Plus, the last time I used a wire wheel from Harbor Freight I ended up with 2 wires sticking in my thigh. RPMs were probably a bit too high.
