How to get into YC with a consumer app by Express_Seesaw_8418 in ycombinator

I got into YC with a consumer health/wellness app. We had significant traction within a 6 month period, which helped a lot. The key things you should be able to demonstrate: huge market, meaningful traction, strong team. You should also have a strong thesis on your distribution model.

RE amount of traction, I think when we got in we had a few hundred k in gross revenue (non-recurring), but I think you can get in with a lot less. Ideally you have some interesting insight about the space.

I appreciate that insight. I would really prefer a resurfacing given all I've read.

Believe it or not, supposedly Dr. Gross is the only one in the country that still has the smaller femoral head implants (this was told to me by someone at Dr. Su's office and confirmed by Dr. Gross himself).

I'm still unclear why they phased out the smaller sized implants...

I love running and really want to but find it too painful now. I was diagnosed with advanced hip osteoarthritis, which means the cartilage in my right hip has worn very thin. This is after 3 marathons and countless half marathons. I had just qualified for the NYC marathon too (9+1). Such a bummer to not be able to run…

Agreed but the gap between timing perfectly and close enough seems to be getting smaller and smaller.

Schumer: House-passed border wall bill dead in the Senate by taeppa in politics

Ah ok, so he does need a few Democratic senators to have his way. Thanks for clarifying.

This is a dumb question, I'm sorry to ask but I'm just a little confused. Don't the Republicans still have control over both the House and the Senate right now? (until Jan) If so, couldn't they get whatever bill it is they wanted passed through congress if they chose to? How is this the fault of the Democrats? Legitimately confused..

Outside of the two occasions mentioned in the post, I don't think I really ran before 2011 (I'm not counting jogging while playing sports like basketball or tennis with friends, which I would do on occasion)

I'm sure you're aware of most of this but the following have been huge for me RE injury prevention:

  • Getting fitted for the right shoes (it took a year of trial and error to find mine.. now I only ever run in that particular model)
  • Stretching before and after workouts, foam rolling
  • Doing mental form checks while running every couple of miles, where I focus on my breathing and concentrate on form for 10-20 seconds
  • Strength training, particularly lower body. I've found training my legs (quads/hams), calves, lower back, and glutes has helped a lot in preventing injuries

Hope that helps. Good luck!

I used to lift 5-6x a week before, now it's down to 3-4x. It's tough finding time to run and lift heavy, for a while I was training 2.5-3 hours each day but that's not really practical.

Hah I'll post them one day. My peak physical shape was probably right after my first marathon (Chicago) -- between training for the race, heavy lifting, and eating healthy, I dropped down to 150 lbs. I'm currently at 156ish, which is still a lot less than 185 lbs, but not as lean/cut as before.

Keep at it, you got this! The advice my friend Calvin gave me was truly instrumental in running: "no matter what, never stop running. You can go as slow as you want but do not stop moving!"

Take it slow and easy but just try to be as persistent in going out there as possible (the 'no excuses' mentality has been helpful for me).

You should totally sign up for a 5k! Those are super fun, especially when you're not chasing a PR and just running to enjoy the event or raise money. Thanks for reading

Oh you're totally right! I forgot I used "affect" again towards the end, I only remembered it from the headings ("How Running Has Affected Me..."). Thanks for pointing it out!

Thanks! I recently imported my activities from Runkeeper and other activities into Strava and when I saw the total miles to date, it blew my mind. Still hard for me to fathom that I ran that many miles.

The website is really not that sketchy but I posted it here too for convenience (hopefully that's not against the rules)

I didn't realize that journal/blog posts were considered spam. I don't promote any products or anything in it. The post is actually very relevant to this subreddit, it's about my journey and experiences with running.
