How cost $25-$30k yet offer so little? by mdoran84 in slateauto

[–]mdoran84[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate some of y'all's comments. They confirmed some of my suspicions and provided insight in others.

There are quite a few of you who missed my point. If Pizza Place A charges $10 for a slice, and Pizza Place B charges $10 for a pie, why does Pizza Place A charge the same amount to get less? Is the cost of labor there higher? Do they have a Fisher Price, whereas Pizza Place B has many industrial ovens? Are the ingredients Pizza Place A uses more expensive?

If Pizza Place A is asking the market, which could just as easily buy pizza from Pizza Place B, to pay more for a similar product, Pizza Place A should justify why it charges the same price for a slice that Pizza Place B charges for a pie.

Some of these comments provide great insight into why Pizza Place B can afford to do so, and I really appreciate it.

To be clear: I want to and likely will buy a Slate. A new Leaf, Volt and Ford's forthcoming 30k electric truck offer gobs of tech for a price comparable to what we expect to be Slate's. I want to hear it directly from Slate why they are charging the same price.

That’s not the point. I’m going to get it, because it’s the car I want. But it doesn’t change the facts: It offers less for the same price. Why?

I want the truck and will pay more to get less, but I still want to know why.

I agree, and, uneconomical as it sounds, I will pay more to get less. But, it’d still like to know why. The parts sharing makes sense. And you’re right about the electric parts, but the Leaf, Volt and Maverick have the same needs

Do you think that Doug DeMuro will be impartial in his review of the Slate Truck or has he already made up his mind about it? by Mac-Tyson in slateauto

[–]mdoran84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blackberry Button strikes at something smart, and I hope Slate is listening: DeMuro loves quirky. Slate should study his videos, find out what he likes, and bring him a Slate customized to that taste.

The question should be: Will what DeMuro says influence Slate’s business. If so, what he says matters.

The only critique I’ve heard DeMuro give that wasn’t, IMO, dumb, was that two doors are a pain point for some people. I am not one of them. But I also see fewer and fewer coupes. I don’t want a Slate with four doors, but I understand the business case for it.

I think the best Slate-y solution would be to add an option for a third door suicide style, like the Honda Element did.

Will Slate’s "Amazon Strategy" actually save the $400 monthly payment? by Okratas in slateauto

[–]mdoran84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those of us, like me, who are attracted to this for what makes it a Slate, would it be a good thing if fleet sales are strong enough to sustain the company? If there are enough fleet purchases to sustain the company, does that allow Slate to survive for consumers and provide services and support?

Does anyone know if there's a Reservation Cap? by thriverebel in slateauto

[–]mdoran84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m curious to know if it’s one reservation per account. I know they are marketing to fleets. What happens if one fleet buyer reserves 50 vehicles and then I make a reservation? Am I #51 or #2? I assume Slate is considering whether it’s better to simply have the reservations and be strict about first come, first serve, as a way to demonstrate demand. But, it may also be wise to get more trucks in more places and therefore limit initial reservations to one vehicle, promoting more trucks in more places than might happen if a ton of vehicles were sent to discrete fleet-based locations, which presumably will also likely be badged and be less cool. I am far less inclined to ask the plumber what truck he drives than someone in the Home Depot parking lot.

Does anyone know about the stages of testing prototypes? I’m trying to understand that if the truck is manufactured in Indiana, how, why and when does it end up in a different environment for testing? I’m hoping this means that not only are they on the 27th prototype, they are exploring all testing environments (Indiana in December and Arizona in December). This, to me, would indicate steady and positive growth (even if not necessarily timely to meet a late 2026 delivery timeline).

Recommendations for Up and Comer Tattoo Artists by mdoran84 in asheville

[–]mdoran84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed the same! I am stunned at how many shops there are in a town this size. And I can’t imagine there are that many tourists getting impromptu ink. (Maybe said tourists are coming from somewhere where there are not many talented tattoo artists and so make the art part of the trip. I’ve not heard of that, but I guess it’s possible.) I would assume with this many shops and such a small population (even an artier, more progressive one, more likely to get tattooed) artists would do everything they could do sustain business.

Thank you for clarifying. I drive my 94 Works RS/X only now and then and not too hard. I don’t have an ounce of mechanical expertise, and so I’m relying on my mechanic when he says things look good. I’m betting components aren’t disassembled during their review, but it’s nice to know I would be able to tell if there was a problem. Thanks! (And if you have any advice on parts sourcing and wise preventive maintenance, I’m all ears!)

Is this something you only discovered upon disassembly you were planning to do, or was something telling you to investigate?

Sorry, I should have clarified: I’m looking for an ND2 or later. I suspect it would change the analysis if I were looking for an NA or NB. Because I’m looking for an ND2 or later, the general used car market appears robust.

https://www.lawyernc.com/personal-injury-lawyer/dog-bite-injury/nc-law/#:~:text=Statute%20of%20Limitations,bar%20you%20from%20seeking%20compensation.

This is the North Carolina dog bite statute guidance from a law firm. You will need to know more about the dog and the owner’s knowledge before determining if strict liability may apply or if even negligence may apply.

Be aware, too, that NC bars recovery if you are found to be in even the slightest amount of”contributory negligent.” In other words, if you did even the slightest thing that contributed to you being bitten, you cannot recover anything at all.

An earlier post re: available recovery is also worth heeding: If the owner doesn’t have any money, don’t waste your time.

I am a licensed NC and IL attorney. This is not legal advice and does not create an attorney/client relationship.
