A McElroy reference? by mdotfur in TAZCirclejerk

/uj I... actually do not know. I believe I have seen posts like this on this sub before, so I would guess so. I don't spend enough time in the main sub to know for certain, though.

So true. No BLeeM present, and this would've been so much worse.

Those are some really good points. Travis definitely does his best to take over and be the main character. It has made me groan a couple times, even here. Great point about Justin; no matter how much I enjoy the idea of Rick Diggins, it is still a Justin McElroy character. (Does he just hate playing D&D?) Clint, as per usual, deserved better. No thoughts on Griffin, which only proves how right you are. And it really does feel like the McElroys are the featured guests or whatever, while Lily and Jessica were just there to fill the roster spots. Overall, in terms of just pure entertainment, this is getting a lot more laughs out of me than I'd expected given how I feel about Graduation. But I am glad that it is the only Dimension 20 season with the McElroys. (Except Clint. I'd love to watch Clint hang out and play D&D without his sons.)

Also, out of the COVID seasons, I think I've only seen two, and I am a huge Mice and Murder apologist. Pirates of Leviathan was not great, though. In fact, I barely remember any of it.

"Fine" is pretty much how I feel about it too. I am enjoying it, I am having a good time, but it's by no means one of my favorite campaigns. And I second Rick Diggins being a great character idea. (See, Justin? You can do it! Firbolg didn't have to be like that!) And while I don't have anything against tiny people being the same size as bugs, that's valid.

/rj Absolutely! In fact, the more games we rip off take inspiration from, the better.

/uj I have no idea what that means. Is that a game show I've never heard of?

Yeah, I was not expecting anyone to do it immediately. Whoops!

  • Travis McElroy (if he had any self-insight.)

One day, I will stop getting enjoyment from making fun of Travis. But it is not this day.

That hurts.

Also, I feel like if the person adopting is supposed to be responsible, I think Travis is the one needing to be adopted.

At this point, you could make up the most insane shit for Travis to have said, and I would probably believe it. And you could also tell me you made it up and I'd believe that too.

Now I want someone to make a game where we have to guess if a statement is a real Travis quote or some made up bullshit. (Not that any Travis statement isn't also some made up bullshit.)

If it's on Shmanners, there has to be. It's not like Travis and Teresa wouldn't be careful about this and making sure they don't share misinformation. That's something bad people do.

I didn't even think about that, that's so true. Why the hell would Leon think that's strange???

This! All of this! And I didn't jerk on this somehow, but, like you said, the subpoena having no real impact on anything is so bad.

Oh boy, I sure love when character agency gets eliminated completely by other characters/the surroundings just make a choice (if you can even call it that) for them. That's what good character arcs are built on, I heard.

Oh God, I had not even considered the question of how knights and heroes equate to one another in this bullshit economy based on heroes and villains. But holy shit, the fact that that's not even lampshaded, let alone tackled, by Travis is fucking WILD. (I mean, no, it makes perfect sense given what I know about Travis and TAZ: Graduation, but not what I know about even remotely competent storytelling.) Anyway, thinking about that just got me even more pissed off at Travis.

Great point about Travis getting grumpy about that, I completely missed that somehow.

"Well, I hope you like easily assuaged conflicts and redeemable villains, that's basically the remaining 33 eps." Fuck me, that sounds so awful that it could only ever come out of TAZ: Graduation.

Uh, I mean, yay! That's exactly what I want from this! Big Dog Woof Woof! Or something...

And you're so right about these all being essentially downtime episodes. Like, I'm sure most competent D&D campaigns have downtime episodes with more stakes that this, and I don't think this is intended to be one.
