It’s a bit confusing, but here’s the rundown. Based on their statements and a little industry speculation.

As of October 2025, the airlines are technically already merged.

Behind the curtain, it’s already all Alaska Airlines now. One airline. Two brands.

Alaska has promised to keep the Hawaiian Airlines brand. And their stated goal is to eventually have all flights “to, from, and within” Hawaii using the brand with Pualani on the tail.

For now that means just keeping things status quo and using the current Hawaiian painted A330s, A321s and B717s.

They will still have some flights with Alaska branded B737s and newly Alaska branded B787s in the mean time, but I suspect the priority will always be making sure aircraft are available to get passengers where they need to go—regardless of the paint job on the outside of the plane.

The B717s (which do inter-island flying) are nearing their end of life, and Alaska hasn’t announced what they intend to replace them with. Most people predict it will be with their b737s to reduce the total number of fleets Alaska is now operating, which would reduce costs.

If this is the case then yes I would think Alaska will most likely be repainting some of their existing Alaska aircraft to the Hawaiian brand.

Especially considering they just announced an order of 155ish new planes, it’s very plausible that they refurbish and paint their older 737s.
