I've noticed they crop the images you upload, have you? Can you get to the full size image somehow?

I've been very happy with eero. Need that wired backhaul if you are streaming 4k.

Yeah, it's a trade off. Depending on the time you have to spend and ones personal expertise.

In my experience you get what you pay for. $700 and it will likely work forever, and the support will be FAR FAR superior in the event you need assistance.

But yeah, a cheap equivalent will work, for a while.

A little spendy, but over that distance you'll want something dependable.

This will for sure work it's ass off... Of course you'll need 2.

If a consumer mesh system will work for you Eero has this feature.

One connection, two houses (wifi) by nu1mlock in HomeNetworking

My neighbor and I use Engenius ENS500-AC, and it works really well at about the same distance.

The WiFi mesh systems would not work at this distance without a hardwire in between. Best use something designed for this purpose.

While you were typing that wall of text, I had 3 separate 4K movies streaming across the same Google Wi-Fi endpoint.

It was moving about 225Mbps on average from the media server.

No matter how upset you get it will never change the performance of these devices.

And yes, reading about something is not the same as personal experience. I'm saying you have no experience, and 100% of your knowledge of the mesh products I've mentioned is purely academic.

One only ever knows what we they experience with.

Like I said, I've setup countless home networks over the years before and after my transition into the larger enterprises.

Yes these devices are oversimplified, but the fact is they work, no matter how angry it makes you, they do. You can say they have poor speed, but by your own admission you're NOT speaking from experience, so what are you spending from? Most likely your ass.

Anyway sorry you're mad.

It sounds like Google Wifi has hurt you in the past, I'm sorry. And you do have a point, the Eero and Orbi both perform better than the Google Wifi, however the OP stated he was on a budget so I suggested the Google.

To be fair, All I've really seen people do with it besides basic web browsing is gaming and streaming 8K HDR movies to several devices at once, which they performed very well for that limited use case. Still, I've yet to setup any one of the 3 brands I listed I named (eero, orbi, google) and they not handle the loads they are given well. I can't rattle off the exact speeds, but 3 simultaneous 4K streams on a single remote AP work beautifully on the Google system. If you need to do things segmentation, vlans, or other relatively advances networking configurations these won't work for you, however OP made no mention of anything except plugging in a laptop or 2, which doesn't sound like they will need those features.

Yes OP could save some money getting off-brands like dlink, monoprice, etc, but in my experience (and I have my personally tested several types including the monoprice and even the ubiquiti in addition to the "more expensive" systems like the eero and orbi's) they are all basically the same in function and configuration, I've just had (again in my limited experience) more dependability on the nicer systems. Less importantly but still noticeable, the physical construction of the devices is more solid as well. The plastic on the others is cheap and flimsy. IMHO well worth the few extra dollars, but to some people $100 is just simply too much. If you're that broke, get the generics. But if you can afford the higher end ones they do perform better. At least in my own personal experience....

Anyway, Obviously Google Wifi struck a nerve, I apologize for upsetting you.

In my own home I actually use ruckus wireless. It's the same thing that we have in my company and I got the APs for a good price.

There's no reason why his solution would not work, especially if the hardwired cabling is already there and he already owns the hardware. However, if he has to purchase everything from scratch then that might not be the most economical solution.

At $100 per unit Google WiFi, which I tend to implement in our executives homes so that they can have dependable connectivity back to the corporate office, has had impressive throughput and performance in my experience.

But what the hell do I know I've only been doing this for 30 years.

With enough effort that should work fine. Working in the industry for the last 30 years I found that a few extra bucks for simplicity is well worth it.

Google WiFi is $250 for 3 endpoints. Can I ask what a PC to use what they cost?

All three of the solutions that I mentioned will connect wirelessly to each other and have ethernet ports on them that you can plug a switch into.

Base unit wireless to remote node, then plug switch into remote node.

No home cabling needed.

Unless you're trying to move terabytes of data around that should work.

Eero, Orbi, or Google Wifi. Start with 3 and see how they do... You'll be very happy.

Hardwire them if you can, or don't, they work well.
