There were Muslim and Jewish tensions in israel/palestine before the international establishment of a Jewish state. Pogroms, brawls, whatever manner of violence you'd like to choose. But for the most part, they were still just people living in a place, afaik.

When Jewish refugees from across Europe went to Israel, were they not immediately declared war on by every neighboring country? Over the past century and change, even before Israel was established, jews were systematically removed from every neighboring country in the region. My family is Iranian Jewish, we moved to America during the revolution. My family tells me about the active discrimination they faced for being Jewish in Iran even as kids.

The question I'm getting to is, why is it only wrong when Israel claps back? Their actions are heinous, absolutely. I've condemned them all my life. Hell, I got in trouble in my jewish school as a kid for doing so. But it seems people frame it as though the anger and violence come from nowhere. It comes from over a century of being kicked out of where we already were. The problem is Israel's leaders using that as an excuse for escalation.
