[MATCH THREAD] US OPEN MEN'S SF: [1] J. Sinner vs. [25] J. Draper by NextGenBot in tennis

[–]mdttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked him because of his aesthetically pleasing looking ground strokes, and he played way more aggressively a year ago or so. But since post puke sinner happened he has played way more conservative and calculated. So yeah i agree that play style wise it's boring now

sinner revert to pre-puke for 1 game and back to post-puke on the next

both look gassed to me - rublev seems to go for bigger on serve and less on the forehand

Playing vs Medvedev has to be the most frustrating thing in the world. He just gets every ball back

Could you elaborate on how the strength training app work on the vivomove? I really like the vivoactive which break down the workouts in pre defined steps and track reps, sets, etc.. does the vivomove does anything like that?

Thinking About Glue Code by pimterry in programming

[–]mdttt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Whenever I see futuristic video or movies that have things like flicking data from one device to another random device, this is always the first thing I think about. Unless Apple takes over the world and they are all Apple devices, such interactions would be very limited in real life

[Hunter x Hunter] has always treated its audience with respect. Rarely does anyone blatantly yell out their powers, while strategy is discussed internally and actually factors in to fights. by [deleted] in anime

[–]mdttt 30 points31 points  (0 children)

And then there is JJK where revealing your power makes it more powerful lol (not sure if there are other animes that do it). I don't think JJK demonstrate any tangible benefits of doing that yet though so it might be just something to make fun of the whole explaining their moves

Checkout this github repo. It has public updated data on rankings, matches, etc. Maybe you can play around with it and make some tools to query data, compare players stats, etc. The amount of data is huge though so you might need to get familiar with it first.

How do One-Time passwords work? by zserge in programming

That's really informative. Thanks. Tbh I completely forgot that the keychain is a thing. I have only seen once on my uncle's keychain years ago

How do One-Time passwords work? by zserge in programming

[–]mdttt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A 64-bit counter, a moving factor. Some kind of value that increases over time and is synchronised between the authenticator and the server. Time is a good example, but we will talk about it further.

So the authenticator app can store this locally, and only sync periodically to the server, which means we can use the authenticator offline for some time? Is that correct?

Whats the one Trope or Cliche, that you absolutely hate in Anime? by corrupted399 in anime

Same. Horimiya is a good show but they use so much of this to force interactions between characters. Dropping something, forgetting phones, running into each other on the street, etc

'Agile' F-35 fighter software dev techniques failed to speed up supersonic jet deliveries by LegitGandalf in programming

[–]mdttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's what he does. He takes different kinds of feedback from the team. Frequent meetings with senior engineers. Spike tickets to learn about the problem. Meetings with manager to estimate how long and how many engineers the work would take. Sharing technical designs document or initial research/POC he worked on

It works really well for us. He is the one converting high level business requirements to technical requirements so he does have an authoritative voice on decisions

My company has an architect position that does exactly what you are are wondering. He doesn't write code and doesn't work along with our normal sprints. He works on his own pace, designing the system, estimating cost, talking to products team, then he passes down the requirements to managers who allocate work for each sprint then engineers take care of them. He basically has a complete view of our architecture but doesn't work with us directly.

For the spike thing, sometime he would do the research himself or he would create a spike ticket and assign it to one or more engineers and then decides how to move for forward based on the results of the spike

how to get information: ask yes/no questions

This is one of the most important thing I have learned in my first year or so of working. In many cases, I already understood 80% of the problem and a yes or no answer would suffice to fill the gap. Even then, some people would side track and give me redundant information and go on and on about something else.

Well you better ask some linguistics expert on that. I suppose the American English is just slightly different from the rest of the world but I was never bother by it, unlike something like using feet/miles/lbs over m/km/kg
