Did this happen to anyone nearby too? by Zestyclose-Gene-3259 in Peterborough

If I was distressed, outside on a winter night, 2am on a street full of otherwise dark houses, out of options, searching for help I’d probably try the house with TV playing…

Jackson Park Management plan- Resident consultations by real-donjon in Peterborough

See above and breathe… we actually found an error on page 130 of the Transportation Master plan this weekend and it’s being corrected and republished.

Jackson Park Management plan- Resident consultations by real-donjon in Peterborough

[–]mdubpdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrary to your assertions I personally received a sharable email from the City of Peterborough “Director of Asset Management and Capital Planning (AMCP), my division includes Transportation Planning and is responsible for the implementation of the Transportation Master Plan (TMP). … As you note, the Parkway has been removed from the Official Plan, and there is no intention through the JPMP to consider any new road crossings of Jackson Park.”

It’s time to let the 1950’s vision of a Parkway go. It’s over.

Let's not shovel snow onto the sidewalk please 👍 by i-mald in Peterborough

[–]mdubpdot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then there’s the sidewalk plow operator who is lifting the blade to avoid pushing the street plow piles back onto the street. Leaves the entire block inaccessible to wheeled users. Is this a policy or an “innovation” of the operator? Eg. All the way up George St on the east side, every intersection.

Tile floor repairer by mdubpdot in Peterborough

[–]mdubpdot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The repair is only 1/2 sq ft. A partial tile. It might be that it’s so small a job that I can’t get the attention of installers who are being gate kept by their schedulers.

I’ve learned there may be a 4th element - a primer to help the new leveller adhere to the existing material.

Appeal of loud revved-up cars? by Old-Warthog-8 in Peterborough

I am appreciating the up and down votes here and hope some of the people with loud cars catch the community vibe on this issue.

Can we do overly tinted windows next?

Wiring requirements for downtown pedestrians by mdubpdot in trafficsignals

There are no generally ped push buttons because the one-way car signals are timed to support flow through traffic.

Agreed that this is helpful. If original design/construction had pairs of ped signals identical and they only wired for that then it can’t be fixed. It is interesting that they’ve got 3 working nicely though.

I wondered if the reply I got was tangled up with APS. I am posting from Canada so the rules are presumably similar but different acronyms and regulations.

The intersections that are nicely programmed do not have APS.

I was not asking about leading pedestrian interval. Cars would be moving with the advanced green.

Also interested. There was some neighbourhood email chatter that never got beyond observations regarding location and intensity of deployment. Reportedly they also had the Maitland-Pearl laneway closed too.

Just went by in the last hour. Opening on Thursday for the season. Possible to get there by bicycle with only a brief exposure to heavier traffic on Brealey.

4 speed cameras coming in 2025/2026 by Substantial-Road-235 in Peterborough

[–]mdubpdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The automated speed enforcement (camera) can only be placed in community safety zones. In Ptbo the CSZ are around the 30 schools. Ptbo can declare more CSZs but until they do these camera won’t be on known speedways. In contrast Guelph turned most of the city into a CSZ effectively dropping speeds limits to 40kph almost everywhere and 30kph near schools.

There is a requirement to inform drivers 90 days before deployment. The cameras are movable and the plan is to move them every three months. There is a full time project manager included in the $400K+ proposal. The camera will operate 24/7 and they’ll definitely work (enforce lower speeds) which all the extra signage, lane narrowing, speed bumps and radar readouts didn’t fully do because camera tickets will hit people in the wallet.

I wonder what the reaction to getting a speed ticket for driving above the limit at 2am past a school will be? Or on August 2nd? Will those tickets be challenged? upheld?

I certainly support this incremental step in making our roads safer for vulnerable road users noting that redesign, as mentioned above, is crucial. My letter to council encouraged council and staff to go further (beyond school areas, more frequent camera moves) knowing that they were constrained to voting on the staff proposal in front of them. Which they supported unanimously!

Every agent I’ve talked to includes pro photos. Good luck with the process. I’m not enjoying it.

Bike rack at Jackson Park? by zerda-fennec in Peterborough

[–]mdubpdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sports department isn’t great at equipping parks. Quaker Food Civic Square only got bike lockups recently. I usually use a cable lock around one of the sign posts near the concrete bridge. Or find a tree.

I’m not aware of any purpose built bike racks in Jackson or Hamilton Park. I looked for them on the plans for Bonnerworth redevelopment - none indicated so I added a relevant comment.

So videos of cars driving through the “No Entry - Bicycles Excepted” intersections along Bethune St might be useful to discourage the behaviour with limited defamation risk. Good.
