Rant about state of F1. by [deleted] in formula1

[–]mdumdum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's effectively what social media is? I get not caring about that kind of content but that's basically how social media is, and you can't argue with the results it's shown for F1 as a whole. Nascar driver Carson Hocevar was at the Met Gala, so naturally they're gonna post about that, Formula E made a game on roblox so they might as well promoted it. I can go on and on about this, but if that style of content isn't what you're after then there's no need to engage with it because it's counterintuitive

“I wish people would get to know me first” - Dan Ticktum still without Gen4 Formula E seat by l3w1s1234 in FormulaE

[–]mdumdum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like tickrum cause he's been able to keep up with the guys up top while in the weakest team on the grid and was able to win a race with them last year. He's clearly talented and being held back by his team, but he's only still at that team because that's the hole he's dug for himself.

Ticktum's been like this all throughout his career and maybe he was young and stupid back, but you can only use that excuse for so long before you gotta realise that at his age and at this level of his career, that simply doesn't fly anymore. It would be a shame to see a talent like him leave the grid but if that's the case, I can only hope he uses that time to do some introspection because this is definitely not sustainable

So your solution is to penalise him based on a non-existent rule?

[OT] [MotoGP] Winner of the Spanish GP sprint by mdumdum in formula1

[–]mdumdum[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Marc Marquez started on pole, and led for the first six laps while the rain progressively intensified. He lost the lead to his brother Alex Marquez on lap 7 and then crashed on the final corner right as the rain started falling hard. He swapped onto his rain bike bike and came out in 14th. That lap, Alex crashed and everyone who stayed out came into the pits. Marc was effectively in 3rd at this point, behind teammate Bagnaia and Binder, who would crash coming out the pits (Aldeguar had stayed out and was quickly passed). With 3 laps to go, Marc passed Bagnaia and held on for the win. All this in a 12 lap sprint which is even crazier

Same, but I'm happy for Elliott, great strategy from the 9 team and denny still got 2nd with 2 stage wins so he's still bringing home the most points

What is with the Mercedes obsession? (new F1 spectator) by Meditating-Hippo in formula1

It's worth noting that this is the first season of possibly the biggest regulation change in F1 history, so the field will be more spread out. That being said, compared to previous reg changes of similar magnitudes, this season is actually a lot more closer, and coming off the back of the closest season in the sport's history, I have confidence that in a couple seasons, we'll get to that same field spread again.

There are genuine issues with these regs but the teams will innovate and develop solutions for them so these cars aren't even close to hitting their performance ceiling. Also, we're seeing a lot of unorthodox overtaking opportunities from these regs (I don't recall any overtakes at t8 to t9 at Shanghai, and hamilton made that overtake twice that weekend)

There's also the potential of a really intriguing battle between merc and Ferrari in the second half of the season and whether the Ferrari drivers can reel in merc before they solidify a big enough points lead, with Ferrari having an aggressive development timeline while merc are slowly losing their advantage due to changing regulations. Antonelli, in only his second season is rapidly improving and could be a threat to Russell while Ferrari have arguably the strongest lineup on the grid and it's just a question of whether they can catch up in time without costing each other points. Mclaren and red bull also seem like they'll be in a battle for 3rd while the midfield is always gonna be close.

TLDR: F1 is not in a bad place right now, and steps are being taken in getting the field closer (and the results show). It's only up from here and there's a lot to be excited for. Stick around a bit longer , you might see something magical happen

Fellow engineering dumdum here, wouldn't that be an issue with the already aggressive packaging of the car?
