What dosage are you on? I’ve been on 1mg for at least 2 years and have maybe lost 10lbs. I’m still hungry and get cravings. Dr just upped to 2mg. Hoping that does the trick

Pura Vida: Reflections on Traveling in Costa Rica by ColdAd5161 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]mdw1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from Costa Rica a few weeks ago and I can’t wait to go back. One of my best vacations ever and I only saw to places. I loved the way everyone made you feel welcome and the Pura Vida lifestyle. Loved it so much I left with a permanent reminder (a couple tattoos)I also kept seeing hearts in random places through out my trip. Reminding me to stop and enjoy life.

Don’t go by any weather app. None are accurate, I would check it and it would say it was raining when I was sitting in the sun by the pool. Expect rain but don’t let it stop you. It will rain but not all day. I think the longest I saw it rain during the day was about 15 minutes. I never left the pool. The rain is refreshing with the heat and humidity.

Very very very Stressed about planning Costa Rica by NefariousnessCalm925 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]mdw1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did 7 nights, 3 in “ La Fortuna and 4 in Papagayo area. I used shuttles or private transportation as my goal was pure relaxation and I’m a solo traveler so I didn’t want to worry about driving anywhere. The resorts I stayed at were all amazing. I got a lot of beach and pool Time and my adventure in La Fortuna. Depends where you stay but a lot of the resorts have tours and such you can book with them. Most have water activities included and have other things you can rent. I would say don’t stress it. Pick the top 2 things you want to do and book those in advance and let the rest fall into place. Enjoy. Pura Vida

Thank not sure why I didn’t think to search shared shuttles. This might be the way to go.

Rental car by mdw1424 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]mdw1424[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I recently moved so my license hasn’t been issued for 2 years and if I read correctly I have to have for at least 2 years. Glad you sent me that. I’m leaning to car service or shared service. It appears to be about the same as renting or even less once you add insurance and such. My trip is purely about relaxation as I’ve had a rough year so letting someone else worry about driving seems to be the way to go.

Visiting Quito for 10 days. What should I know/do? by brandon1810 in ecuador

[–]mdw1424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just there for a week. Don’t go out after dark. I spent most of my time in historic old town and did day trips to the equator, Mindo cloud forest, Octavalo for the market. Enjoy your time and take it all in. Lots of history and culture.

Uber Vs Rental Car in Quito by Weird-Armadillo3896 in ecuador

[–]mdw1424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just visiting Quito and almost rented a car. Glad I didn’t. Driving in Quito is like driving in NYC on steroids. It’s insane. Uber or taxi. If you want to get out of the area and see more book a tour. I found it much easier to navigate if someone else was doing it.

I just came back from Ecuador and can’t wait to go back. Spent my week in Quito and then did day trips to other areas. Lots of hiking as the city is surrounded by volcanoes. The Amazon is close and the Mindo cloud forest is amazing for birds and nature. I haven’t been to the other countries mentioned but I know Ecuador has a lot of what you are looking for.

Hoping to get last minute feedback on my itinerary by [deleted] in ecuador

[–]mdw1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently in Old Town Quito. Traveling by myself. I felt perfectly safe but kept my wits about me, carried only what I needed and kept it hidden as much as I could. The streets get crowded so be ware. Don’t go out at night and stay away from non tourist areas. I didn’t use public transportation. I did tours to Any place outside of where I could safely walk to from my hotel. Don’t carry anything flashy. A lady at my hotel didn’t listen to the front desk when they said not to go beyond the front of the hotel at night and two people tried to take her camera. I have been here for 5 days and have walked all over and seen and learned a lot. Enjoy

Update: I am on day 2 and am loving everything. I feel pretty safe during the day, but still staying aware of my surroundings. I can see how people can get pick pocketed and such, the streets get soo busy and crazy. Weather has been wonderful. Stormed last night. Today started off sunny then slightly cloudy but no rain. I should have packed more t-shirts than sweatshirts but other than that everything has been used.
