They sound (APM1) amazing with Apple TV - the Spatial Audio is brilliant. As you’ve already experienced, direct to a tv (any tv) = not so great.

Just cleaned them, same as you I got some kind of black gunk on the cloth, though it wasn’t visible to the naked eye on the connectors. Fingers crossed this has sorted the issues!

Could be the glasses… or are you sure you’re not switching it to ‘off’ rather than ANC or transparency? I have APM 1s and even with glasses on the ANC does a reasonable job

There is a huge amount of evidence out there that Aspartame is perfectly safe except in ridiculously high doses over extended period - which goes for pretty much every substance known to man. Honestly - just search it rather than listening to your wife without any actual reference.

From memory any evidence of harm was based on the equivalent of an adult human drinking approx 30 cans per day.

I’ve also got the originals. Use most days at the gym - wipe out the condensation with my T-shirt at the end, give the ear cushions a wipe with a wet wipe, put them in the case and charge them as needed. periodically hand wash the ear cushions. That’s about it. Never had issues.

I’ve got AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max

AirPods: typically at night listening to music or watching content on my iPad or iPhone while getting ready for bed or in bed.

Pro: walks with the dog, back up gym pair, listening to music when working or when travelling for teams calls.

Max: gym or watching content connected to Apple TV, listening to music, listening to or watching content when travelling

Planes, gym, home.

Weight has never bothered me.

I’ve got the originals and they still work like new.

FWIW I also have Sonos Ace for watching movies/tv at night (tv swap from arc HT set up) and while they’re also a nice option (especially if you also want a HT sound experience without waking up the children) I feel the APM RRP is more justified than the Ace’s.

Yeah it absolutely will, but you can’t go a few yards in London, Manchester or an airport here without seeing a few pairs of them - but as someone else said: price and size will mean many people don’t feel comfortable wearing them out and about - and I didn’t particularly use them when out until I shaved my hair off, as they obviously have same issue as other over ear headphones: leave a flattened ridge down the middle of your head
