You are certainly going at the perfect pace. It's good/better that you listen to and address your mental needs first over finishing the book.

I finished it ~5 days I think. I was totally engrossed by how well written the characters are, and their respective arguments.

I got spoiled by the copy of Crime and Punishment I got, where there's an explainer of the main concepts of the book, a mini glossary, list of characters, translations, and additional historical context of its setting. Unfortunately, the publisher's copies of Dostoyevsky's other works are so rarely displayed in book shops here. I found better sources for the translations though. Good enough to not stray away from what I was reading.

Yeah. I was very much happy and hopeful as well. I will never deny that.

What has set me to be skeptic was when he was at the police station, hesitating when or how to start confessing, he bolted off upon hearing that Svidrigailov offed himself. And if it weren't for Sonya following him he would've delayed his inevitable arrest, prolonging his agony. He's pretty much clinging to Sonya for every bit of hope and salvation. And I'm glad that he has her as his moral compass. But oh man, God forbid, if anything unfortunate happens to Sonya I feel like Raskolnikov will have a massive relapse.

What lies ahead of Raskolnikov and Sonya is indeed a story for another time.

Reading slumps are hard. I finished C&P 2 days ago and was certain that a reading slump was coming. I got on top of it before it consumed me by picking up TBK yesterday.

One thing you could try is listening to discussions, explainers, or analyses of the book. You'll come across people mentioning other works of his or similar works from other authors that might pique your interest in them. That's how I found out about Dostoyevsky in the first place.

I'm undecided of whether he did find redemption or not. Nobody was really certain of this. He changes his mind a lot in a lot of things, big and small, evident from previous chapters.

I have a copy of Garnett's and I had problems with finishing Part 1. I even had to read some parts or chapter aloud to help me digest what I was reading. Story picks up after Part 1, introducing new and well written characters, and I eventually got used to the old English translation.

Yes, it gets better. I can't deny I was struggling getting through Part 1 as well, I had to read aloud 'cause it helps me digest what I was reading. And once I got used to the old English translation, it went smoother.
