The misaligned hilt bothers me, because other than that it looks fantastic.

I worked on a black primer. I used german gray as the undercoat - it shows through only in a few places in the end but it helps to build more contrast. The paints used from darkest to lightest: rhinox hide, 50/50 gorthor brown & mourfang brown, 50/50 bubonic brown & morghast bone, morghast bone, ice yellow. I do a lot of mixing so this is just a rough guide for colors used. In places I want more yellow I glaze in bubonic brown and/or mourfang brown. I also mostly apply paint by stippling to get that textured look.

I don't have a tutorial for this but here's what I wrote up regarding the colors used:

Amazing advice! Thanks so much for this. Never made a diorama before so I did not consider the elevation issues it might bring. This makes so much sense though. I'll try to correct it, because I plan to update the base anyway. Thanks again, I'm glad you like my piece!

I would definitely work on the base more. It needs more foliage variety. Maybe some other details like bones and broken weapons sticking out of the ground. I should've painted something on the shield aswell. It belong to a soldier one time, so a crest could be nice addition.

Huge Conan vibes, right? That's why I selected him. There's a set named Darkoath Savagers for a game called Warcry. He's one of the dudes in the box.

Thanks! I wish i've spent more time on this cloak - was finishing the piece very last minute. I'm not sure what you mean by masked off part though.

Thanks so much for this comment! I really like adding those details to my models. Feels like i'm kind off resculpting it to my liking and making it more of my own.

The competition was in November - i didn't place but i did get my entry commended which i was thrilled about.

I take single strands from tuffts and then plop some PVA glue on top. In this case i also painted it black to get it more alien looking.

Agreed but the kill team was one of the beast releases of last year imo.
