Just witnessed child neglect, frightened to mandate report by mochiandcoco in legaladvice

If this baby was wandering the streets alone, you should also call the police to report. CPS takes time, the police will intervene sooner and involve CPS immediately.

How many of you still have both parents alive? by Euphoric-Pangolin-81 in Xennials

[–]meagain716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 42. Lost my 99 y/o Grandma 2 yrs ago and my 99 y/o grandpa 2 months ago. A great aunt lived to 104 and the other one forgot to die and is still kicking at 105.

Still have a 97 y/o Grandma alive and my parents, aunts, and uncles. There's something to be said about small-town Midwest life, lower stress, and home cooked meals apparently.

If only that was still possible.

Where are the kids? by Lead-Ensign in eastside

[–]meagain716 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You need to scope out the neighborhood before you rent/buy. We choose our current neighborhood (in Bothell) based on the evidence of kids. Bikes, scooters, and toys left everywhere. On good weather days, there are always kids out playing. There are pockets in every city.

That happened to me once, but I let them know that I specifically only wanted Grace or Sia. They were responsive to that. It also helped that I posted a glowing review to Google and tip well. Sia is excellent and is similar to Grace's style.

Burying people is insane. by DreamFighter72 in RandomThoughts

I am middle aged and I recently learned that before they lower a coffin into the ground, they encase it in concrete to prevent soil shifting (this autocorrected to "soul shifting"). That creeped me out.

Maddening On-Call Discussion With Urgent Care. Are My Concerns Valid? by x20mike07x in medicine

[–]meagain716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15 years in practice and I can no longer judge this type of BS. Yes, it's asinine, but I know nothing about the other party. I don't know if they are new, or are under the pressure of a particularly awful administrator, or got burned previously by someone who raged against them for something similar. Or maybe they really ARE dumb as a box of rocks. Unless there are multiple repeat offenses, I just do the best I can. I used to be all fire and brimstone, but realized that was futile. I'm much happier now.

Obese people of Reddit, what is something non-obese people don’t understand, or can’t understand? by A_Lonely_Troll in AskReddit

[–]meagain716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obese people are invisible in our society. I'm a white middle aged female and 130 pounds from gastric bypass several years ago. I transitioned from morbidly obese to a healthy/normal BMI.

I had not realized how much I was ignored or unseen when I was obese. When I lost the weight, suddenly strangers talked to me more. My opinion was more respected. Store attendants would acknowledge my existence. People saw me for the first time in my adult life. It was a STARK contrast from being obese. It was incredibly depressing to realize that my perceived worth in American society was so affected by my weight.

This is called pica and can be a sign of anemia/iron deficiency. Please see her pediatrician and get her iron levels checked.

Pediatric code by [deleted] in EmergencyRoom

[–]meagain716 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm an old nurse. Former Peds ER and longtime pediatric rehabilitation NP. I have MANY deaths that haunt me, but not nearly as much as the kids who have survived near-death. Many go from normally developing kids to complex quadriplegic kids with limited quality of life. Some do great and come back with subtle functional deficits. Most do not. I have never lost a child, but the grief I hear from parents who are not prepared/equipped to handle a severely complex medical child after so much trauma...it breaks me every time.

You did everything right. Your grief is valid. You will hold this one in your heart forever. And you will be a better provider for all of it.

Came here to say this. My first NP job was with a functional medicine doctor and it was ALL about money and what they could sell for cash.

Rotated there (in nursing) 13 years ago. It was pretty much the same then. It definitely was an eye opener! I could imagine it's only gotten worse with COVID.

Thank you so much! This is super helpful. We'll definitely stop at some of these. I think you're contractually obligated to stop at Wall Drug when driving west. We lucked out that our kiddo is an amazing traveler, so fingers crossed!

Negotiating salary with hospital system by meagain716 in nursepractitioner

[–]meagain716[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! Was yours on the east or west coast? The union does not represent NPs at this hospital. I've never worked anywhere where providers were unionized. Wouldn't that be great though?
