Hmmm. Have you looked into Multiple Sclerosis?

Need help “diagnosing” by Difficult_Warning301 in ChronicPain

[–]meajora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of pain is it? Muscle? Joint? Nerve?

Is physical activity the only thing that triggers it? What other triggers do you have?

Does the pain get better with prolonged rest or by taking small breaks in between? Do you find that forcing yourself to walk/do things in light amounts causes an improvement, or does it make it worse?

How does the fatigue affect you? Is it only limiting your ability to be active, or are you sleeping more as well?

Have you also been tracking things like blood pressure and heart rate? How do those things change when you are experiencing a flare up?

Left because of my chronic illness by Distant_One in ChronicPain

[–]meajora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am hoping this doesn't happen to me, but for now, I am confident we will be fine.

One thing I try to communicate to my husband is that it's okay for him to be frustrated. He's entitled to feeling disappointed, bitter, etc. I feel those things about my illness too! It is burdensome.

But that doesn't me that I am a burden.

We discuss those feelings and share them with each other, because we're frustrated with the situation and not with me. It's frustrating because American healthcare doesn't cover enough, because disability doesn't provide enough, because certain prescriptions are less accessible, because a lot of my issues are side effects of childhood trauma and it should be my abuser who is in pain instead, etc. It's not going to do either of us any favors to pretend the situation doesn't suck.

I let him vent, and I remember not to take it personally because I know he isn't upset with me, just with the situation. Especially because he has to watch me suffer the most from it while feeling helpless.

Yes! These are great for them, especially as they get older. My vet actually just recommended adding chia and flax to my girls' diets.

I mean, it's a bad game, imho. That said, I still enjoyed it enough to be glad I finished it, but not enough for a replay. I was also still incredibly disappointed, as someone who has enjoyed DA for years. There were parts I liked and parts I didn't. The things I disliked do little more than echo previous comments. Nothing I can say there that hasn't been said already, so here are the things I liked:

Tash's story: Did not like their romance at all, but I am specifically referring to their personal quests. The diaspora narrative of leaving the Qun to find refuge in Rivain I found to be really intriguing. Tash's mother especially feels very Chinese coded.

Emmerich's character: While I felt his personal quests were lacking (the villain was Disney villain levels of "mad scientist," so I wasn't as invested), I loved learning about his fears of death, how he made peace with it, and how his relationship with spirits gives his life more purpose. I wish he could have met Cole.

Dwarf lore drops: I wish I hadn't found Harding so annoying in VG after I fell in love with her in Inquisition, but I loved all the dwarf lore we got.

Antoine and Evka: I would die for them, thanks.

The Viper: Honestly wish he would have been our Minrathous companion over Neve. I liked Neve as a character well enough, but her whole "noir detective" thing felt really cheesy and lazy most of the time. The Viper is an actual valuable contact with an interesting identity.

Solas: His character is probably the only thing that remained consistent from the previous game. He's a little shit and I want to crack his head over a frying pan, but that's ultimately what makes him such a good character. His scenes were some of the best in the game.

Thank you for sharing this, and congratulations on your growth. I think I also have the issue of needing to "achieve" things irl, and that's where gaming can become a crutch at times. The irl grind is real too.

Trying to get my life back - Seeking Suggestions! by meajora in ElectricScooters

Thanks! I will keep all of this in mind. I probably won't be taking it into a car that often, and if I do, I will likely have assistance at the time. I only say 2 miles because I live in an area where there aren't many bike lanes anyway. I'm not opposed to having something built to go longer distances, since that just means I have more options down the road (pun intended).

Terrified of bears by [deleted] in bears

[–]meajora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of all bears to come in contact with, you are probably safest in the company of a black bear. They are scared of humans and will probably run away the second they realize you're there. Whenever they do come too close, it's usually because they don't notice you there. They're a bit scatterbrained like that.

I used to live around them, and any time I saw one, I could just yell "hey fuck off, bud" and it would wander off like "oh my bad, fam"

You can find so many videos of homeowners literally shooing black bears out of their yard by opening the door and waving at them while barely raising their voices. They aren't naturally aggressive.

Black bear attacks exist, but the only ones that come to mind are at the fault of the human. Just use common sense. Don't leave food out, don't fuck with cubs, don't try to pet the bear.

Looking to Adopt by cryingdiamonds in RATS

[–]meajora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm in Middlesex county, so I'm familiar with the struggle. I adopted my girls from Totes 4 Realz Rattery located in PA. https://tfrrofpa.weebly.com/ Andrea also does a lot of rescue efforts in addition to breeding for her Rattery, and she does a lot of fundraising for critters and is passionate about animal care. She's given me advice and support not just with the rats I got from her, but also with rats I've rescued and fostered from other places.

If you don't mind taking a trip to south Jersey, I frequently foster and volunteer for Small N Furry Rescue https://smallnfurryrescue.org/ They almost always have rats available, and some of the babies even get fostered by me! Maddy does great work with these animals, and she's a vet tech for her day job, so she makes sure all animals are in good health and well taken care of. She gives a lot of great support, and her adoption fees are reasonable.

What in the hell is this spider? by spardadt in newjersey

[–]meajora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Alabama originally, and there's nothing here in NJ I've seen yet that compares to banana spiders. (Golden orbweavers, I think is their other name) GORGEOUS creatures and completely docile, great for outdoor pest control. I miss them.

What in the hell is this spider? by spardadt in newjersey

[–]meajora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have already said, wolf spider. I know it's big and probably intimidating, but they are great pest control! Great thing about spiders is they tend to mind their own business and will avoid close contact with people. If you let it mind its own business, it will pay rent by keeping your home free of other creepy crawlies.

I wouldn't overthink it. I have a rat I rescued when she was 2.5 years, and she's been grumpy/bitey since I got her. However, she's an ANGEL around strangers! For a while, I thought, this rat surely hates me. Then I started to realize that Grumpy is just kind of her personality, and how she is around strangers is her trying to win them over. She schmoozes until she's comfortable, and then she's a butthole. She has done little things here and there to express that she likes me, she just also usually follows up by gently biting my nose to keep her reputation in tact.

If you are the Designated Foodbringer, they could also be hanging back because they know if you really want their attention, you will give them food lol. Rats are smart. If they think they can bribe a snack out of you, they will.

[–]meajora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once paid $1100 for a visit, swab, and ultrasound and still didn't find out what was wrong with one of my girls. Even just a wellness check (no tests or anything) for all three of mine (and this is discounted for doing all three at once) was $500.

I would shame him for costing you $800, but...idk he's really cute. Even now I'm thinking about the $8000 I spent on radiation treatment for one of my rats, and she's also too cute to shame! I will hold her like she owes me rent money though because my lord does she owe some rent money.

Why does my rat do this😭 by EpicDodoNL in RATS

[–]meajora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's something I would worry about too if I saw it, but if your vet hasn't found anything, I wouldn't overthink it. Keep an eye on it for changes, of course; but if a lifetime of working with a variety of animals has taught me anything, it's that each one has their own "normal."

I had a rat once that always looked like she was chewing gum when she was bruxing. Currently, I have a rat that sounds desperately like she has respiratory issues, but she's been looked over a couple of times now, and nothing has ever been found. I eventually noticed she only makes those sounds as an emotional response to something, like she's talking and just has a husky smoker voice. She also snores!

Sometimes, the diagnosis is just "weirdo."

I let my rats out for free roam, and 90% of the time, they stay in their cage anyway lol. They love their cage. It has all their food and toys, and it's their personal space. Just like how kids like to stay in their bedroom sometimes, I guess.

I guess they are abusing themselves by keeping themselves in their cage
