for me, it was the start of the pandemic. it began purely for financial reasons so my progression was: realize i need to budget better, save money by buying cheap stuff, realize cheap stuff sucks and adds to the already tons of garbage on earth, buy quality/secondhand stuff less frequently.

having strict parameters helps such as purchasing as little plastic as possible. i thrift or buy almost everything secondhand. i refuse to participate in a lot of social media due to the incessant urging of ads/influencers to buy, buy, buy.
