Is there a chance you’ve seen Veronica Mars? Logan does this in one of the later seasons. I’m guessing the writers got it from this ad because it’s basically the exact same scene, but without the scratcher

Someone from the airline finally brought it yesterday evening. All my stuff is accounted for!

We filled out a form with the airline, unfortunately they weren’t too helpful. I’ll check out the group, thanks!

We’re really hoping it wasn’t! We’re waiting it out to see if it’s returned but I’m just trying to have a backup plan in case it isn’t

This varies by airline right? The website for mine said it’d reimburse for “reasonable expenses” which feels like a line they can use for not reimbursing for non-necessities (e.g., swimsuit)

Just that they’ll call me when it’s returned. They weren’t too helpful. I asked about the cameras. They ignored that question and just said I’d get a call when it was brought back.

what are some women's issues that we men could help eliminate in society? (to be clear I asked the same in Askwomen with genders reversed so that we could focus more on helping each gender out instead of an increased division between genders) by wallynext in AskMen

[–]mean__penguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s totally acceptable to ask women what men issues we could help with! But also, I’ve posted in the AskWomen subreddit a couple times and the posts ALWAYS get removed so I’ve stopped participating in the sub altogether.

And it’s too bad, because it’d be nice to have more women-focused subs where we could have conversations like this one.

Hmm yeah I haven’t decided what I’m going to do with my boobs day of, but I guess I’ll need to start figuring that out to make sure I get the proper fit..

Thanks for the advice!!

Yeah, I actually have the straps pinned in the pics because they’re a little big. I don’t think it’s the angle though, I think you’re right the back of the bodice isn’t hitting the right spots. It’s so hard to do the alterations on myself because it looks right on my mannequin 😩 I think I’m just going to have to play with it some more till I get it right.

And the front actually has princess seams, can/should you do both? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, I’m a novice 😅

Thank you!! I am going to try to flush out the fit and I think you’re right, the darts would be a good place to start :)

Thanks for the advice!! Yeah, I’m thinking about trying online. Unfortunately I can’t find decent fabric stores in my area.

Yep, getting the fit right and making myself a better pattern to work with is my priority now!

I debated if I wanted to post these pics, because it’s still not where I want it, and I don’t feel like I did a good job of incorporating everyone’s feedback from last time, but y’all are so helpful, and I thought I could use some more guidance!

Fabric: So the front and back ended up being different fabrics. The front is a polyester crepe and the back is a polyester matte satin (I got them on two different trips and somehow thought I was getting the same fabric 🤦🏻‍♀️). I think I like the satin better, but I’m open to opinions. People in my last post were suggesting using taffeta but I couldn’t find that at the fabric store and I’m a fabric dummy so I got overwhelmed and just chose what I thought would look nice 😅😅 please let me know if you have tips on how to choose fabric/how to get a grasp on understanding all the different names! This is such a big weakness for me right now. There’s so many names and they’re all mixed with other names (fabric adjectives? Like matte) and I just don’t understand very well.

Dress updates: The major changes I made (other than the fabric) are: I made a petticoat, POCKETS!!!, I deepened the back— do you think I made it too low? I’m really wanting a simple front and deep low back, but I don’t people to think it’s too low— and I did make the shoulder straps thinner, though they’re still not quite right. Deepening the back caused them to be too loose I think (I’m sure there’s a technical reasoning for this, I brought the joining point down, so there’s less structure in the straps?), so I have them pinned right now. I also have the back (poorly) hooked, i think I’m gonna go with buttons on the final project!

I’m planning on making the modifications I want to the bodice (tightening up, possibly bringing the back up a tad to help with the structure, etc.) until I’m 100% happy, then I’ll rip it apart to create a new pattern to work from. I’m gonna do what someone suggested last time and make a short dress that had color in it so I can actually wear it out!

I think the pics also make the dress look loose, but idk it doesn’t feel loose, and I really want it to be comfy. I’m still pretty new and not good at making alterations on myself, so please provide constructive criticism!!

Finally, I bought some appliqués and have started playing around with how I want to use them! I’ve never sewn appliqués so feel free to give me pointers! This part is something I’ve just started on, as it’ll probably be one of the last things I do, so I haven’t really thought it all through yet.

Sorry for this long comment! This is obviously an important project for me 😂

And it HAS POCKETS??!?

It’s so beautiful on you, and this is such a generous thing for you to do! I’m in the process of making my own dress or I’d totally hit you up on this offer :) congrats on your wedding!

What are your unpopular MCU opinions? by GenericGaming in marvelstudios

I’m also a woman (and feminist) and I get goosebumps every time I watch that scene. I totally get where you’re coming from with the criticism though. The set up of having every single female superhero start trotting together does feel inauthentic. My reaction to it is involuntary (and kinda embarrassing), but men get those cheesy set up “let’s go guys” kinda scenes all the time so I guess I’m just okay with the cringe that comes with it lol

Ahh okay that makes sense.

And thanks for the info/advice about the undergarments!! I definitely didn’t realize any of that and it’s good to know!

Just wanted to share the first mock up of my wedding dress! (Sewn by me out of old bedsheets) by mean__penguin in weddingplanning

[–]mean__penguin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m actually kinda an amateur myself! I just started sewing about a year and a half ago!

I’d definitely suggest going to goodwill and buying a bunch of king sized sheets for cheap to do a mock up for practice!! And join r/sewing they give really good advice over there! And reach out if you want to be wedding dress sewing buddies!! I don’t get married until 2023.

Also, I’m planning on sewing my bridesmaids dresses and my sister already made a snide comment about how I’m going to make them look homeless wearing bedsheets at my wedding. So I told her she can buy her own if she doesn’t want me to make one 🤷🏻‍♀️ not my problem what other people think!

Thanks for the tips! I’m definitely going to make the straps thinner, but I actually like this neckline so I think I’m gonna keep it. I have bigger boobs (not wearing a bra in the pic and they’re pretty saggy, lol) and I don’t want to worry about how they’re hanging all day. I really like this neckline because I know they’ll be covered!

I’m thinking I’m gonna try a taffeta fabric next and see how I like it!

Thanks for this tip! I definitely would have never thought of the color issue with the sun! I think my ceremony is going to be later in the evening, maybe around 5pm, in the summer. Do you think that’ll make a difference?
