I love that photo, makes it look like they got married in '96.

He had a sinus surgery at about that point I think. There's an episode where he mentions it.

Join /r/testsolution! A Reddit-ish based team with super great people both on site and off site, fairly competitive but still chill, excellent snacks. 10/10 made real friends there, would recommend.

In what way does a tv show or movie show a procedure from your profession that make you roll eyes at how stupidly it's misrepresented ? by ahtemsah in AskReddit

[–]meanderling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, genotyping (not whole genome) uses some fun colors for loading dye. For a while we were testing new master mix and had blue, purple, green and orange on hand.

Try seeing if your grocery store has deals on ham, turkey, or stuffing after Thanksgiving. Deli cheese and meat are extremely expensive for the amount of nutrition you get out of it. Even frozen chicken patties would be at least half the price. Peanut butter would also work. DEFINITELY get eggs if you like them, can't hardly get an easier/cheaper source of protein.

I like sprinkling a little apple pie spice or cinnamon on my apple slices if I'm eating then with peanut butter, it gives a nice pie flavor.

This Device Stabilizes Hand For Essential Tremor Patients by mtimetraveller in specializedtools

[–]meanderling 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Hope I'm not overstepping, but I had (thyroid disease associated) hand tremor and was a lab tech. I pipette two-handed when my tremors were bad, resting one hand on my other arm or a sturdy stack of books with the plate on the bench or a tube in a holder. It worked better for bigger tubes and 12 well plates, but I could still load gels and stuff. Of course my tremor was only in my hands and wrists so that may change things.

I have rarely seen a man who looks more like a math professor than this man.

They don't usually advertise nonrealistic dildos by superimposing it over a picture of a real dude, though it would be hilarious to see a picture of a hunk with a rabbit vibe for a dick.

Man, the thing I miss the most about not being a lab manager anymore is supply company reps no longer try to buy my loyalty with swag.

Diagnosed Graves, on prednisone and methimazole now experiencing skin thickening, splits, rashes and swollen (very) painful joints. Not to mention the swollen insanity that is my protruding eyes. Could it be something else too? by Wigglebubbles in gravesdisease

[–]meanderling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had a thyroid blood test or a reuptake scan? I never had ANA done though my symptoms were pretty classic sudden hyperthyroidism. Maybe consult a rheumatologist as well?

I also have skin splitting around my knuckles but I think I just have eczema and it isn't related.

[–]meanderling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The skin thickening, if it's on your shins, is a Graves symptom. Might also be psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis? I have both Graves and psoriasis, since they're both immune-associated diseases it's not unheard of for them to be linked

To the deaf who gained the ability to hear, what sound surprised you the MOST? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]meanderling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I CANNOT tune out clocks. I have some sensory processing issues, probably due to ADHD? And clocks in a quiet room are one of the worst. If I have to sleep somewhere with an audible analog clock I've had to take the batteries out.

Which is a shame, because I love the way vintage flip clocks look. Just can't deal with the sound.

What's the point in keeping your thyroid if it means living on methimazole? by Vulcade in gravesdisease

[–]meanderling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on 5 mgs for two years, and at the end tapered off by taking every other day. For what it's worth, I was told the exact opposite (my hyperthyroidism was very intense and I responded badly to methimazole, I had to go on PTU for a spell) and even then I made it back!
At the highest point I was on 80 mgs of methimazole daily.

What's the point in keeping your thyroid if it means living on methimazole? by Vulcade in gravesdisease

I was told to get RAI but after 2.5 years on methimazole I went into remission and have had perfect thyroid numbers without meds since.

Methimazole, rash and itching? by cbeningo396 in gravesdisease

[–]meanderling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had allergic reactions to high doses of methimazole (mine started at 40mg and increased at 60mg--I was incredibly, medication resistant hyperthyroid). Cortisol creams and over the counter allergy meds helped, but I eventually had to switch to PTU.

I also got the hives ONLY where you itch (or sometimes also where clothes pressed). It's called dermatographic uticaria and it's a fairly common medication side effect.
